Super Alloy 1 contains cadmium. Pitted pot metal or zinc die-cast parts are very prevalent when it comes to this white metal. Pot Metal has been described as unrepairable or impossible to fix, however, at MuggyWeld.com we are demonstrating how to fill pits in pot metal using Super Alloy 1 solder and a propane torch. If you only have an oxyacetylene torch turn the oxygen down as this solder melts at a very low temperature. Butane can work on small, thin pieces of zinc diecast and pot metal.
First, we cleaned the area to be repaired, then used a Dremel to dig out the pot metal oxidation. With a propane torch, we added flux and filled the freshly cut parent metal. If your pot metal part is chrome plated, you will need to remove the chrome before soldering with the Super Alloy 1. The cheapest job a plating shop will do for you is to remove the chrome from your pot metal part.
