Did the trick. Only difference my Aquarite 20 years old and contacts were on top of board. I have never soldered. Had a 30w old iron and solder from sons hobby days and it workedl Not as neat as yours but helped seeing your video. Cost. 5.99. Thanks

Just completed my repair😀 I ordered a soldering kit and replacement thermistor from Amazon. And I able to replace the part with this video and a few others that I saw. Two year ago it cost me 500 dollars to replace the board via a pool service. My total cost today was twenty dollars Thank you !! P.S I had also just replaced the salt cell at a cost of $375 and the board when bad. Total cost of $395 to be ready for the summer heat🏊🏻🏊🏻🏊🏻🏊🏻.👍👍👍👏👏👏

I like to leave the legs long to help dissipate heat. The wire is stiff so no danger of bending or touching. I even saw one post where they had the stiff wire longer legs left in after the dead thermistor had been snipped and they installed screw junctions on each leg. All they then had to do was unscrew the dead one and secure a new one in the joiners. No need to even remove the board. I might try it. The screw joiner blocks also provide more heat dissipation area.

Mike, I wish that I would've scrolled down and viewed the comments. I spent a long time searching for this product online before learning that I could buy it from Amazon. Order placed after pausing your video to learn exact replacement part, for mine crumbled in my hand when examining the circuit boar. I was troubleshooting why the 'power' light did not glow, nor did the 'generating chlorine' or 'superchlorinate' lights glow. I had digital numbers display, and the 'no flow' light flash when I turned the unit on. There was no detectable chlorine in the pool. The panel was 'going' for a couple of months for the pieces were crumbling without my knowledge until watching your video. I hope my soldering project works in 2 days...for I am a novice at this project. Thank you for the video. Di

It will be a piece a cake, you will see. Make sure you have a decent solder iron/gun. 25 watt won't work well in this application (blue motherboard). Yes, it technically can, but you will be there forever trying to heat up the solder from the board. Get a higher wattage iron and you should be done in minutes.

@@diane-k3n You can do it! The purpose is so the solder can make the legs conductive and strong for the circuit board. Inside the board, there are traces. These traces (looks like lines) are responsible for carrying electricity. This is why when this part broke, no electricity can flow through. No flow, no juice.

@@Zeppelinlv2007 I figured out that my solder pads are on the front of the unit, not the back. So I was able to complete the project. I replaced the unit back into the box, connected all the wiring, and lo and behold!!! 'Power', 'Generate', and 'Superchlorinate' lights appear, along with chlorine in the pool! Thank you Zepper2019 and Mike Martin for everything! My pool man was impressed as well, for I showed him the broken piece, and the price I paid for 2 thermistors purchased from Amazon (< $6.00/2). I completed the project within 3 days. Di

Is it a good idea to put a paper towel sheet over the rest of the board except for the square area you're soldering in case solder drips & hardens on another part of the board? Thanks for the video, I'm about to repair my PCB board.

So you are using the SL32 2R025 Thermistor instead of the AS32 2R025? I guess because the leads are flexible and grab the board to make soldering easier?
@Mikemartin968
7 жыл бұрын
Chris Roush, yes exactly! The SL32 2R025 has round leads vs. the flat leads of the AS32 2R025. Also the SL provides better performance (at least on paper), not that you will notice in the performance of the chlorine generator... lastly I was able to order 3 of the SLs at a better price from some guy on e-bay with quick shipping. Either one would definitely work.

Hello Mike. Thanks for this video! What are some of the symptoms that a board with a bad thermistor shows? Mine powers on fine, then when the relay kicks in, the board turns off and back on. A bad current limiter does seem to me like it would cause the board to power cycle, perhaps due to a current overload. The fuse on my board is fine though. Does this sound like a bad thermistor to you? I also thought it could be a bad capacitor, since it may not be holding enough current and then powering off, or a bad relay. Forgot to mention, the board does not power cycle when the salt generator is set to OFF, only if its set to AUTO or SUPER CHLORINATE, and only a few seconds after the relay kicks in. Haven't gone too deep into my component-level troubleshooting, but was hoping you can shed some light on my issue with your past experiences and save me some work. Thank you!

These thermistor are a common failure point in all of the Goldline/Hayward chlorinators and they fails within several years. It's usually the cause to erratic display behavior, cell cutoff, or lights not functioning correctly. Take a look at the board, MAKE SURE power breaker is off, and look and touch the thermistor. If you see visible cracks or you touch it and it crumbles, it's time to fix it.

Sounds like the same issue I had! You could have the cell tested for free at Leslie's (or whatever local pool place you've got in your area.) If the cell is good I'd go for the repair.
