This new series of chats explores selected symphonies by avowedly modernist composers written in a thorny, challenging musical idiom. Yet these are the works of true symphonists--music of wide expressive and emotional range. It's fascinating to hear each composer find a personal solution to the epic task of writing symphonies, and however complex or difficult they may sound initially, rest assured that they reward as much attention as you have to give them.
