The bolts to remove the rotor on my 2010 Camty were M8 1.25 (metric) and about 2 inches long. The bolts that hold the pad bracket on took a 14 mm wrench.

Been doing brakes for 3 decades. Never knew what the grease was for and never asked anybody. Plus, all of the videos I've watched never mention the grease except one. And that 1 video the guy was telling everyone to leave the grease alone. So I literally just finished doing a brake/rotor job on my wife's car and decided to use the grease for the first time. Thanks for explaining the use.

you don't want to put grease on your new hardware where the pads slide! If you do, that grease attracts all the brake dust coming from the pads as they wear which gums them up and they will stick and have the problem you described this vehicle had, where one side, or the other may wear prematurely because they are not sliding (releasing) as they are supposed to.

Every thing you ever see or read about break pads tells you never to touch them (or the rotors) with grease. That caliper was so filthy and the liberal use of brake grease was so heavy that I would have replace my rubber gloves with clean ones before touching the new pads and mounting everything back.

Don't forget to line the rubber plug in the rotor with the big hole in the hub so you can adjust parking brake if needed.

Great video. But there’s an important step missing: Sometimes the Parking Brake adjuster needs to be loosened to allow the Rotor to come off. Watch at many of these videos as you can. There isn’t one ‘all encompassing’ How To video.

I have 2 questions, first at 11:40 what grit sandpaper should you use to sand those? And I was having trouble finding grease like you use, what kind is that? The guy @the hardware store told me that the STP All-Purpose grease that I found at AutoZone would drip or run after getting hot, which makes sense, I think it had a melting point of around 300° or so and they had another kind that's labelled high temp grease and melts around 500°, would that be usable? it's been hard to find something like whatever you have, where can I find it? By the way I appreciate your videos they're very helpful, and I like your sense of humor too lol

I don't understand why the bolt holes to remove the rotor is not a universal process. I looked at over 10 youtube videos on how to remove a stuck rotor before coming across 1 showing the purpose of the holes. Everyone says to bang with a hammer. Why? Shouldn't the hammer method be the last method after the bolts don't work? Even "professionals" act like they don't know about the holes.
@davidanalyst671

I did one and it just stripped the bolt hole. then i hit it with a hammer until i busted the bearing. so this needs to stop being a thing!!
