If you drop the rod down inside the door this KZitem video should help you.
• Ford Ranger How to Rem...
From the inside both locks worked well. Neither lock mechanism would turn with key from the outside. It was as if the key was worn out, or if a wrong key was being used. The key would go in normally, but the lock mechanism would not rotate. Was initially only the passenger side door. Eventually, both stopped working.
A local Ford dealership recommended a new set of door locks for just under $600. They informed me the new door locks would have a different key than the ignition.
I'll try to do better on my next narration. Should have written down a script rather than just wing it.
A few corrections and omissions follow.
* Unlock both doors and roll down both windows before proceeding so you don't get locked out.
* Locking/unlocking the door makes getting the lock mechanism in and out easier.
* An open window makes locking/unlocking the door being worked on much easier.
* A retainer clip, not a bracket, holds the lock mechanism in place.
* Liquid Wrench, WD-40 or other penetrating oil helps remove gunk from inside lock mechanisms.
* Use solvents (alcohol, acetone, etc.) to remove the penetrating oil. Keep away from flames!
* Wear appropriate gloves and glasses when working with oils and solvents.
On the positive side its been more than six months and both locks are still working smoothly!
