Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this. It’s pretty obvious what one needs to do to replace a tip, but it’s a big help and reassuring to see someone actually do it.

Dude! You rock! I bought a BRAND NEW Weller 8200 N at a thrift store for $1. It is from 1973, and whoever owned it never plugged it in. The ONLY thing missing is the instructions explaining how to install the tip(s)! The rest of the paperwork and the Soldering Tips booklet is still here, though. I was all set to start playing with it and LOST MY FRIGGIN' MIND trying to figure out how the tip gets installed. Thanks to you, I'm gonna be one solderin' fool, tomorrow!

You are a life saver. I have a Weller soldering gun model 8200 that I bought at a yard sale. It worked great until the tip broke. I bought a replacement, but did not know about bending the ends. It kept falling out. I almost put it in the trash until I saw your video. The way you showed it was very easy to follow. Thank you!

Thanks! I have an old Weller 8200 that wasn't heating up enough to melt the solder. Was just about to scrap it until I found this video.

I use the exact same way you tin the new tips which is the most important first step when having a new tip. Very good video. Cheers :)

Question, wondering if its possible or even worth the bother... Everyone seems to be saying, the models with the set screws are bleh... ...Couldn'e one "tap" the receiving ends and use the old tap holes for the bend in the old style tip insertions? and then buy the replacement factory nuts? hope that made sense! :) Please let me know if you try it

I have an OLD 8200 it does not have nuts on the tips, it has machine screws that thread in from the side and as you noted thats a bad method. And, that is why Weller must have changed it. I would rate the unit I have as the worse tool in my box and I have many. What do I do with this tool, can it be repaired, are there parts available?
