Excellent explanation, I have to install one to replace a very heavey concrete slab plus a filler at one side. This has helped me figure out how to make it work. Hope it goes as well as yours. Thanks again.

I detect a Bristolian accent? Thanks for this though - very helpful. Question - why use mortar for bedding the frame and concrete for filling the gap surrounding? Sorry - not a builder, so have no clue.
@LarcsWorkshop
4 ай бұрын
Somerset boy, not far from Brizzol👍. I used mortar to bed it down because the stones in the concrete could stop it leveling down properly (they won't squish like mortar 😉).

Thanks for the vid, I'm just about to replace mine, I made the mistake of thinking the frame slotted in to the brick work but I see that it rests on top and is held in place by the concrete you laid. I just nervous that it will slip because I park cars on mine.

Yep, but do it so you don't damage the chamber, mine was pretty much broken off any way. I would imagine you would have to dig down a bit with one of those? They're quite thick aren't they? Cheers Larcs 👍

How many parts of cement / sand /mortar for the mixture that you use to hold the manhole frame down & fill in the edges that you cut out earlier? Any particular brand of mortar/cement would you recommend?
@LarcsWorkshop
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I set the frame down on mortar - 1 part cement, 3 parts builders sand. Filled in around it with concrete - 1 part cement, 2 parts chipping, 3 parts sand. Or 1 part cement, 5 parts ballast. Any normal cement from a builders merchants will do. Cheers Larcs 👍

That lid is not rated 10tonnes. It's 6.25kilo Newtons or 6.25tonnes. It's not even up to A15 on BSI. It's a Facta one for pavement only. Won't do you any harm but it's the cheapest money can buy and if you want it to last a lifetime you must get a cast iron one, not a plastic frame one
