Nice video. I like when you tried to blow dust off the pipe with your mask on. I've replaced 3 or 4 sump pumps, but this is more biological. Wish me luck!

Hi from Michigan here!! Our pump just went out. So I've been watching videos on how to fix it. NOT that I'm going to do it. But it's nice to know what needs to be done and how to do it.

Thanks for this video! I know this is an older video but I just found it at the perfect time. My pump just died and I'm trying to figure out what the next step is for getting it squared away. I appreciate your thorough description of the steps you took in doing all of this. It was a big help!

Hi Theresa D. Thank you for the kind words. I'm happy the video was able to help you! I made the video because I really didn't find any that helped me before attempting it myself. Good luck with the rest of your replacement!

It's always a good idea to get a sewage pump that should work for your basin. A big pump in a small basin can short cycling.

Nice work! I just had to replace the pump on my septic tank I just used the existing piping and wella all done. I was more like swapping the pumps out so I could just use everything else including the 4 floats that my septic system has without any modifications for fit. Thanks for putting this up.

My son stumbled on this video and asked me to watch It. As a plumber of over 20 years could't believe my eyes when i saw you hit that PVC with sand paper. If a inspector seen you doing that they would make you rip it all out.

At 13:30, you should have gone only with the outside, rubber coupler. An inside coupler will create excess turbulence as the liquid comes up to the lip. That turbulence will dampen the flow of water and increase the work done by the pump, which will reduce the life of the pump.

I’ve never seen anyone clean PVC with sand paper. The primer should soften up the plastic to help it stick together better. I managed real estate and make small repairs for properties but I’ve never replaced a sewage pump before. This job looks dirty. I hope I can do it. 😂

think most have them in the pumps but read on your pump if you do this to see if it needs a weep hole. i just got a zoeller sewage pump and it needs one. the reasoning is so that it doesn't get airlocked sitting in the pit.

Thanks Burton! your video was excellent. Question for you.. My pump went out as well and I noticed because the basement toilet didnt flush. My basin isn't nearly as accessible as yours but I was finally able to get the bolts off the lid. I went to unscrew my check valve (since it's vertical) and water began shooting out of the top, since I dont have a close off valve. Does this mean the basin is filled to the top? Will I have to drain the basin at all to get the pump out, or can I just lift out like you did? Thanks again!
@burtonsbuilds2735

craigzilla100 Thanks for the kind complement. If I'm reading what you wrote correctly, the top of the check valve started leaking once you started to take it apart This tells me that your stack (pipe going up) has fluid in it not necessarily your basin. I wouldn't take off the valve off completely. Just remove the bottom. Hopefully the valve will be able to hold off whatever is left in the stack . If not you can let it drain into a bucket. If you removed the bolts to the basin you should find out quickly if the basin is overfilled :-). This does depend if whoever installed it sealed it with silicone or not. Not knowing all the details you should still be able lift the old pump out even if it is filled with waste. just be careful and take your time. I would lay down towels to prevent as much mess as possible. Good luck and feel free to ask me anymore questions you may have.

I have a rough-in and there is a ejector pipe above but no vent and no hole for vent in the basin. Is vent absolutely needed or?
@johng8967
Жыл бұрын
I would think so, the basin should be air tight so it won't stink up the place, the vent should help with the gas and for the sewage water flow smoothly down to the basin.

Hi! I just found your video 3 years later! Nobody has used the basement bathroom, but the ejector drain overflowed and flooded. Is it possible for the ejector to be receiving waste from some other fixture not in the basement? I was under the impression it's only for the basement bathroom, which is below the main house sewer line. It's got us confused. Also, if we shake the pipe, we can hear a rush of water and the pump work. Thanks!

Sounds like maybe your float switch might be bad. Do you have a laundry room downstairs? If so it may be dumping into the sump. Another thought it may be ground water if your sump tank is cracked or just open to the ground. Thanks for watching!

@@silverS70 I believe it might. It goes to a floor drain, along with the water softener. We suspect the floor drain empties into the sewer ejector pump, but can't be sure of that. Is a floor drain supposed to drain into the sewage pump basin?

@@rocketmaam6898 a way to find out is to pour some water down the floor drain and listen to hear if you hear it running into the sump pit.

No disrespect, but.... Why would you use 2" pipe only to choke it down to 1 1/2" with an internal coupling..? 2nd.. why do homeowners attemp projects.? To save money ( potentially hundreds in this case).. Only to nickel and dime the parts & material. Causing much aggravation to say the least... 2 foot of pipe instead of a 10 foot stick. Lol..

Mr. Big Brownbass I'm not sure you know what your talking about. Homeowners should always try and fix before hiring "professionals" who will bilk you out of ever nickel and dime. Anyway it has been working flawlessly since installation! No leaks, no backups, no noise, no problems. Thanks for your "informed opinion" and thanks for watching. LOL

Dont waste your time scuffing/sanding PVC before gluing. It does nothing. The "glue" basically melts the pipes together so a scuffed surface doesn't help you.

Do not understand why you used an inside coupling to reduce the diameter. Also, why are you blowing on the pipe when you have a face mask on. I guess you wanted to amaze your wife with your diy skills.
