This video is how I have replaced some of the Halogen lights with more efficient and safer LED lights. The reason for making this change has been the cost of lighting up 100+ halogen down lights and also the reliability of the transformers they require. I decided to gradually swap out the transformers and go for mains powered LED. This means that the physical light fitting does not require changing which helps to cut costs.
The majority of the lights in this house have dimmer switches fitted which are not compatible with the LED bulbs I’m fitting. Therefore in some instances I also need to change the light switch to a non-dimmable one.
The tools that I used are:
- Electrical Tester amzn.to/2ZAQf0R
- Wire Strippers and pliers amzn.to/3mhSLCT
- Small flat screwdriver (the screwdriver tester is ideal)
- step ladder
The parts required are:
- LED GU10 bulbs (cool white or warm white depending on your preference) amzn.to/27wiX2S
- LED Fly Leads amzn.to/33snRzd
- OPTIONAL - non dimmable or LED compatible switches amzn.to/2ZyylXk
