Do this at your own risk. This is not a tutorial.
My 10 year old Craftsman 2 cycle blower wouldn't start due to low compression caused by piston ring sticking to the piston. This is a common problem with blowers at this age.
I tried using carb cleaner and MMO to see if the carbon can be removed without taking the engine apart. Unfortunately, taking apart the engine to replace the ring seems to be the only solution. When the piston is pulled, I can see the ring stuck and encased with carbon. I removed the ring and cleaned the piston and cylinder of carbon the best I can. I ordered two rings and will attempt to finish the repair in part 2. Since the flywheel does not have to be pulled, this repair is not too difficult.
This blower has always started with one or two pulls and has superior blowing and vac capability. The shredder has two metal cutting blades and works great. I believe the old vac design is much superior to newer models where you have an extra curve tube making such blowers more jam prone when used as a vac.
