Video Walk-through:
To remove the armrest, remove the two Phillips screws inside the door pull then slide the armrest back.
The door handle trim ring can be removed with a small standard screwdriver. There are three areas that you will need to slide the screwdriver into and gently pry while pulling on the trim ring.
Remove the door panel by gently prying around the perimeter of the panel to pop the panel off of the retainers. Again, if you do not have the proper tool, you can use a standard screwdriver. There are a number of these plastic retainer plugs so be patient as you work your way around the panel. Sometimes these plastic retainers break. If it’s just one or two, you can usually get by without replacing them but if the majority of them break, there is a link below for replacements.
There is a single rivet that holds the door handle in place. You will need about an 1/8” drill bit to drill out the rivet (I don’t remember what size I used). After the rivet is removed, slide the door handle forward to release it from the door.
To remove the manual window crank, if you do not have the proper tool, you can side a thin rag behind the crank and pop the retaining clip off. The clip points towards the handle so you will want to enter from the crank handle side. It can take a little bit to catch the clip but if you keep at it, you will get it off.
You will find two rods connected to the handle assembly. One of them is for the door lock. The other is connected to the mechanism that releases the latch and allows you to open the door. I used needle-nose pliers to pop these rods out.
Install the new handle in reverse order. First, connect the two rods then insert the handle assembly and slide it toward the rear of the door. You can use a short sheet metal screw to replace the rivet that you drilled out. I happened to have a rivet gun that hasn’t seen any action in quite a while so I used a rivet.
Replace the door panel. Be sure that all of your plastic retainers are in place and you get them into their holes before you apply pressure to the panel. Otherwise, you could break more of them.
To install the window crank, you will need to slide the retainer clip into place, toward the handle part of the crank. There is a notch on either side that the retainer clip will rest in. Then, just press it back onto the splined stub.
Press the handle trim ring back into place then reinstall the armrest.
Test it out and make sure it all works properly.
