Pro tip, there is a smog pump that is bolted on with 3 bolts right below the starter. You can unbolt it and zip tie to the side and you will have a tremendous amount of room to get access to the top bolt. It takes 2 minutes

I ran into that small pump and all I did was unbolt the bracket with one bolt on it and put it over top of the frame. Done in 30 minutes.

We did not find any videos on KZitem either- so we used yours as a jumping point. WE got the starter out - lord have mercy- blind with the top bolt, but we did it and bench tested to find out it indeed was a bad starter. I am thinking that Aura starters must never go bad - therefore the lack of videos. We replaced the starter and she starts first time every time- thanks for your video! BTW- our Aura XE has 191400 miles on it- heading for 200k! woo hoo!! :)

It's really not that hard it's supposed to be done from the bottom previous four-cylinder engines on the GM vehicles have the same layout you need a 6in extension with a 15 mm short socket I've done a lot of the GM starters, I've done the hybrid today and even that's pretty easy. The 6-inch extension will allow your ratchet to sit right behind the drive and you'll be able to get that top Bolt out just fine

@@lloydhardy9250 i do this for a living; 35 years as an auto tech.. I just did a starter on an 2009 Aura with the 2.4l engine 2 days ago . You need a 6 inch wobble head extension, a 15mm swivel socket or 3 inch wobble head extension and a 15 mm deep wall socket and a ratchet to get that top bolt. It took me 20 minutes from start to finish.

@@michaelrehkop4817 question.. with your suggested set up, did you remove the top bolt from the top or did you remove it from underneath the car?

i tried from the top and couldnt get it on my nieces car. couldnt get it from the bottom... i mean i couldnt get it to break loose, i disconnected the wires, surprise i got a bit more room but still couldnt get it to break loose.... got it broke loose with a 15mm box end wrench from the top, then with a 6 or 8 inch extension, regular 3/8 drive socket and socket wrench i was able to back it out... what helps immensely is if you can get someone to look down from the top and tell you which way to go to get on the bolt

Put a 6 inch extension on the short 15 mm socket if you need extra leverage you take a boxed in wrench and put it on the end of the ratchet small Cavaliers have the same type of starter so does the Pontiac Sunfire all of those four cylinders are pretty much alike.

This is good for the 4 cylinder Ecotec. This won't work for the 3.5L V6. For that I'd recommend a different video. The video is for replacing the oil pressure sensor. But you have to remove and replace the starter to get to the sensor. It's for a G6 but same motor and parts and tools and procedure. kzitem.info/news/bejne/p6SGnndtrmZkqag
