One of a string of defensive forts constructed along the East Coast of England in the early 19th century, the Landmark Trust's Martello Tower is noted for its unique clover-leaf shape.
As part of the Culture Recovery Fund, the Landmark Trust was awarded a grant of £1,228,839 to fund necessary repairs to many historic properties in their portfolio.
A portion of this grant has been used to facilitate the conservation of the Martello Tower, to protect it from erosion caused by the sea and harsh coastal weather.
