@@summerrayneoakes That would be wonderful. I'm a beginner plant owner. I've been on gardening forums for advice and it is frustrating. Many different strong opinions. Most pro growers on these sites would recommend planting in a gritty mix of turface, maybe chicken grit and pine bark fines of equal 3mm size. I like that you used soil from the bag, mixed with the old soil and the activator. I was expecting you to add pumice or perlite and make it more complicated. Great video.

@TicklishWombat

I started mine via leaf propagations (I took the leaves from a friend's plant, with her consent) 2 years ago. Each leaf made 1 sprout with 2 leaves each after about a year, and another sprout several months later with 4-6 leaves. It's still a really tiny plant, but a precious one, and I can't wait until it grows into a monster 🥰 (I think they grow faster when they're more established, they're quite slow when propagating from leaves, but what a cool trait for the plant to have, to be able to grow from leaves!)

I got mine in a 5 inch pot about a year ago in the middle of Indiana winter and it has definitely doubled in height to be about 2 feet tall. I keep mine in front of a southern window most of time time. It doesn't need that much light but I want it to get huge ASAP and it certainly doesn't hurt.

Its the same I think with the Acacia genus - (or was it something else?) where Australians described it and found differences between australian and african plants and then put the african plant just in another genus while they kept the „old“ genus for Australia 🙄😒

My mothers zz plant has a tiny baby in the centre... in thinking of stealing it but I don’t know how to propagate it 🤷🏽♀️
@erindewan6758
5 жыл бұрын
Cut off a few stems near the base and put them in water... they’ll send out roots but it will take months. (They need heat to root but not much light) then plant them (but they’ll be top heavy so you’ll need to stake them until they’re well rooted.) That’s my favourite way of propagating them... dividing them by the roots can cause problems and shouldn’t be done unless the plant really needs it. Separating the baby plant by the roots may compromise the rest of the plant. Propagating them by the leaves can work but will take years until you have a decent sized plant.

What I love about you is that you show, all plants have their own “personalities” in that they don’t look perfect all the time even with great care! You just let your plants grow how they want whether that be upside down, sideways, or whatever, whereas, I, try to stake mine up to no avail lol. My dad is constantly on my case to “fix” my giant 3ft desert cactus that I’ve grown from a tiny 2-3” height, because it is staked and STILL trying and succeeding to grow lopsided. Lol he thinks something is wrong with it but nope it’s a happy little cactus and putting out MORE arms to add to the 20-ish ones it already has. Gonna have to work out something to prop it up or restake it, which is a FEAT because the needles are half an inch long and very girth-y lol, because it is trying it’s best to lay down sideways haha

I recently destroyed an old zz monster of my own... I divided it and put it in the wrong soil, the roots and tubers began to rot, Don’t water it in once you’ve divided and repotted it... at least for a week... the roots will have undergone trauma and broken parts can rot easily. I had to pull them out and cut away a huge portion of each ... then let them dry on my counter with a fan on them... it took 3 days... now they’re individually planted in small pots to try and get them to bounce back. Such a disaster. And it was my own fault. Such a dumb mistake.

Oh my goodness I just realized I have the same plant and it was just one branch when I planted it and later became too big for the pot so I had to repot it.The plant similarly had all its root entangled but I didnt untangle them instead cut through each and separated them into three different pots.I even gave some to my friends.It was a hell lot of work but the plant looks healthy.This plant just gives a blunt expression always looking the same no matter what happens. Love all the way from Kerala,India

This was exactly the video I was looking for. I have a giant Zee Zee plant that is unfortunately also in a giant pot…definitely an outdoor project when it comes to it. But now I know what to do and am a lot less intimidated. And bonus(!!) what a wonderfully fascinating guest!! Just can’t say enough on that …. Thank you both so much 🌳 🌍 🪴 🧡 🙏

I had an elephant ear plant that I needed to re-pot because it was root-bound. It was the most root-bound plant I've ever had but it is NOTHING compared to this beast! I can not believe the root system this plant has! Allan was awesome to have in the video
