I can't get over the fact that you have so many animals and take great care of each and every one of them. Right now I'm working on getting 3 foot cages for both of my leos and adding live plants. I dream of getting lots of animals but want to take the best care of them and keep upgrading them because new info is being discovered. Keep up the really great work because you are growing a good amount of viewers which is great because you take the best care of any reptile youtuber that I've seen. I'm trying to do the same with my channel because of all of the bad care that I see. Please keep making videos, they are amazing!

this is the best reptile room tour video I have seen ever! Thank you for this and well done! Nothing is in a plastic box and no reptiles in fish tanks! It's so nice to see someone recreating natural environments too, Im a bioactive person. Also lovely to see a beardie and leos in real substrates and not bloody lino or tiles. Well done and keep up the good work, show people you can have a large collection and care for them properly!

Same here! My hoggie is in a two foot viv and he's going into a 4 foot this year with a 3d background Im making, he's already semi bio as I cannot keep plants alive in there, so working on what plants to use lol. My boa is getting a 6x2x2 and my brb is getting a new 6x2x2 as she needs a plastic one, all wooden ones swell no matter how well you seal them! My gecko has a huge terrarium that is fully bio and Im so proud of it, all plants are thriving in there. Only thing I haven't done yet is got them all UV.

It’s been a great pleasure to watch this again. My approach to husbandry is very similar to your own, except that I don’t handle my snakes unless it’s necessary (cleaning out if they’re in the way, etc), with the exception of my boa constrictor amarali, who I can’t resist stroking when she’s out of her hide. She almost invariably emerges after I mist her substrate; my other snakes do not respond in this way. Perhaps prey are more abundant after rainfall where that species lives (Bolivia).

You have excellent enclosures and very well decorated ones. That is another hobby of its own, congratulations for the patience and time you dedicate to them. I would never do that. I am more of a minimalist and the animals live just fine. I keep them in smaller and simple setups, so no, I am not worried about the "small" size of your enclosures. They are fine where they are.

Ahhh I didn't even see this updated one! Totally obsessed with your decor. What's your cleaning routine like?
@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+Sarabell W ah thanks! Cleaning coincides with the snake food order usually. So every 10 weeks, the enclosure are stripped down. Disinfected, all decor disinfected and steam cleaned, substrate replaced and redecorated. For the bioactive enclosures I do a bit of plant maintenance and top up the clean up crew whenever necessary. The aquarium is cleaned weekly. And spot checks on the snake and lizard enclosures are daily. That way there's no build up of bacteria. Substrate is removed all around the area they mess in and replaced so there's no spread of nastiness :)

@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+Natalie Jones Hi, firstly thanks! The only reason I've got heatmats in my 2ft tanks is because there's no space for a ceramic and a guard. Personally I'd always choose ceramic heating over mats :) especially in a 4ft space. A heat mat won't achieve ambient temps very well

I dunno about snakes but if they are like bearded dragons I wouldn't think a heat Matt would be beneficial? And what's with the led lights? Dont reptiles need proper Uvb lights?
@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+Allyz P Heat mats aren't really a great way of heating. They provide no ambient temperatures whatsoever. Replicating a natural heat source is a more accurate way of approaching it. Especially for a bearded dragon, as they require such a specific gradient. LED lighting is only used in the enclosures where my animals do not come out during the day. However all of my basking animals have the UVB level required. Some of my snakes will be receiving UV zones soon to see if any behaviours changes. Strictly the snakes don't require UV but it can be beneficial so I'm looking into what I can provide whilst ensuring they don't receive too much.

NO SAND, i don't know why u would use sand for a beardie or leopard gecko reptile carpet or even tile looks better then sand ,is cheaper, easier to clean, and doesn't kill them, if u say they have been on sand their whole life, there whole life might just be a couple of years. Other then that, great job.
@JensensReptiles
6 жыл бұрын
A huge amount of research has gone into my choice of substrate. I've had both of them on Reptile carpet, tile, Lino, etc in the past. But I will continue to use natural substrates for them. Not only do they thrive on them, but it supports their overall health by maintaining warm ground temperatures, and supporting their joints. I use sand/soil mixes which have been sampled from the areas of origin for each of the animals. I make sure the enclosures are kept spotless to minimise any risk of bacteria build up. Impaction is also of very little risk in a healthy animal. If husbandry is correct, there is no issue with a natural substrate. Shout if you have any questions.

Amazing as always, loving your setups and all your wonderful guys are so well cared for. Such a pleasure to see this as you know what an advocate l am about their care. Great video, can't wait to see more of little Mopani as she grows and becomes that adventurous girl as my Lily. I'm pretty sure once she gets the taste of out of her enclosure and becomes more confident in herself, there will be no stopping her. No more tagging Mopani, lol
@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+Gotta love carpet pythons Thank you so much, such a compliment from someone I respect means the world to me :) Mopani is certainly showing that carpet python curiosity. She seems to want to come out more and more, I'm really missing her while she's in shed! When she's out she's exploring and fine and then suddenly she will strike and tag my hand or forearm. Not sure if she's getting spooked by something or letting me know she's had enough but when she does that I'm keeping her out for a few more minutes so she doesn't associate biting with getting her way. Not sure if that's the best thing though? What would you suggest? She's doing it less and less so I'm guessing it's just nerves. She's so wonderful individual, as are all my animals, but she's the first to show this behaviour and I'm wondering if it's typical of young carpets. It's been suggested it is, and that she will grow out of it when she is more confident. Either way, I just want to do right by her and make sure she's happy :)
@Gottalovecarpetpythons
7 жыл бұрын
What you are doing is perfect, certainly don't put her back after the tag, let her settle first then put her back. Mopani will definitely grow out of it, they are quite nippy as youngsters and certainly mellow out as they get some size on them, generally around 1 this starts to happen. I allowed mine to climb onto a stick and crawl onto that, then they chose to come onto me themselves. I was never bitten by them, guess l got lucky, but allowing them to come onto to that stick first, then my hand an arm appeared an extension of the stick so they would just keep crawling up my arm, it worked a treat. You are welcome as well, you do a wonderful job with your reptile family.

You can have loose substrate like sand however you need to make sure your giving your leopard gecko enough calcium because if you don't they know there's calcium in sand and they WILL eat in and it's not good for them so I reccomend wood chip or other substrates that they can't eat

@JensensReptiles

+callum wilce mine is currently in a 2x2x2 but she's outgrown it so I think a 4x2x2ft would be best

Won't the LED and UV bulbs be to bright for the leopard gecko?
@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+BatwingXL222 Urbina The LED light is on a dimmer and the UVB is on a 12 hour cycle that simulates sunrise. She's often out to bask early morning and late afternoon when the light is lower :)

Is ur bearded dragon playful or calm ??? I want to know bc I am getting 2 very soon so if u have only tips for me plz let me know
@JensensReptiles

+Abigale Silcox Bearded dragons on the whole are very relaxed as adults. The babies can be a little more Spritely but I'd never really describe them as playful. Congrats on the new babies! Make sure they are housed separately to ensure happy and healthy beardies :)

so sorry for asking more questions, but how many degrees does the basking spot and the UVB tube light need to be. and by the way i think your a great youtuber and you have amazing videos x
@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+Zoe Carrier UVB tube won't give off much heat. Basking spot needs to be about 36°C, maybe even a couple of degrees higher. Ambient gradient should be from 34°c to 26°c roughly. The enclosure I use is the 4ft vivexotic reptihome but I intend to upgrade his enclosure to something bigger this year :)

Please make a video of you feeding all of them in one video. Or make a playlist of feeding a variety of them, whichever generates more money for you.

+mic300391 Ah I'm not fished about money! It's just a matter of being able to film in the dark. A lot of my animals only eat at night so it's tricky to film. I'll try though :)

3:24 actually leopard geckos naturally lick there environment and substrate in order to explore and they will take in the substrate so i would recommend moving to a different material
@JensensReptiles
6 жыл бұрын
Lick yes, bite chunks out of....no. A healthy gecko will not eat their surroundings, and a lick of substrate once in a while will do her no harm. A lot of research has been done to make her substrate the most natural choice for her. Not only is she incredibly healthy, she has also never had an issue shedding like so many geckos kept on poor substrate choices. With proper husbandry, you can certainly use a natural substrate to enrich your animals existence.

I'm really want a snake and I have almost convinced my parents to get me one because they are really not keen on it. What I like about your enclosures is that you actually have put time into it and made it look like their environment which is what I would do. I see lots of people with really bare enclosures or even trays which I feel is not nice although they probably are not affected I feel it is better to do it how you have even if it is more expensive.
@JensensReptiles
7 жыл бұрын
+Joe Thomas I find that it makes a big difference. A lot of my animals are rescued and have come from bare enclosures with no enrichment. There's a big change in their behaviour when they have a more natural environment to feel secure in. People underestimate the complexity of these animals :)
