I think of this movie as the pilot to the American cartoon show, _Beany and Cecil,_ which premiered a year later. It featured a young boy who wears a beanie (obviously 🐶) and his sea monster friend, who looks a lot like Reptilicus.

I found an unknown jewel of a video compilation called 'Hollywood Dinosaurs' that included a segment on 'Reptilicus.' They stated "American International Pictures would release ANYTHING, but even they knew 'Reptilicus' was awful," and insisted on the excision of any scenes with Reptilicus flying on its tiny wings.

A clip from this film, with the monster destroying the city, was featured on an episode of "Gomer Pyle USMC." A guy named Ib Melchior worked on this movie. Melchior was a good friend of Bert I Gordon and Paul Blaisdell. Melchior also worked on some 1960s cartoons for Hanna-Barbera and others. When I first saw this as a kid, I called the monster, "Ridiculous." Still, this thing was a nice dragon puppet. I really enjoyed this film and review. There have been some which have suggested this film be remade. I hope not. If any classic giant monster film needs a remake, it's "Gorgo." Thanks, Cobwebs Channel!

I saw Reptilicus on Mystery Science Theater 3000. It was the first episode of season 11, the first Netflix season. During a break, Jonah sings a rap about how 'every country has a monster'. In a later episode, the Mexican Batman knock-off 'Batwoman', the villain is operating out of a yacht named... Reptilicus. Seeing this, they start singing the rap again but in Spanish. Seeing the scenes of the puppet monster on the rampage, I was reminded of a scene from an episode of Doctor Who, 'Terror Of The Zygons'. At the end of the story, the Loch Ness Monster, clearly a puppet, rises out of the Thames to attack London. It is so similar I'm struck by the thought that maybe it was deliberate?

Two versions of this film were made: a Danish-language version directed by Poul Bang and an English-language version directed by the film's producer, Sidney W. Pink. All of the actors in the film were in both versions, except for Bodil Miller, who could not speak English; as a result of this, Marlies Behrens dubbed her character. This is trivia for the film .. so technically its 2 different movies. heck main actress in film is blonde in American but dark greyish hair in Danish too.

Thank you for reviewing yet another sort-of-beloved film from my misspent youth. I think your review nailed it...this is NOT a very good movie, but somehow it is entertaining in that "cheesy old movie" way that if you're in the right mood you can put it on, grab a drink and some snacks and maybe invite some friends over, and have a good time. Some of the early scenes succeed in being creepy. (The guy getting shocked by the electric eel...not so much.) Similar movies that might be worth checking out are THE BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN, THE BLACK SCORPION, and THE GIANT BEHEMOTH. (I don't think you've reviewed any of these...my apologies if I missed any of them somehow.)

I saw Reptilicus in the theater when it first came out. Even as a kid, it seemed the story was interesting, the crew finding the flesh in the drill, but the later effects seemed kinda prehistoric. The scene where Reptilicus eats the guy was pretty scary at the time to me too. Maybe this is one film they could reboot, the effects would be much better. .

The New MST3K's riffing of Reptilicus disappointed me. If they had made it when they were still based in Minnesota, the Scandinavian jokes would have flown fast and furious, and there would have been great references to Lego, Niels Bohr and Carlsberg . And they totally missed the opportunity to have Tom Servo play Victor Borge!

Goofy fun, with an underlying unpleasant weirdness (at least when I saw it on TV in the 1970s; I suspect its abject foreignness freaked me out a bit as a kid). Oddly, there was a novelization of this published shortly after the film's release that, um, inserted a good bit of raw sex into the story. Quoting from online sources, "it was the closest thing to over-the-counter pornography as you could find in the early 1960’s." Huzzah then! Thanks for the reaction video, I like that you don't pass over the silly stuff.

This film is such a train wreck it's impossible not to have some fondness for it. I do like the opening and the flesh coming up on the drill bit...it's surprising and kind of nasty. The effects are just...yeah, words fail me. I would like seeing the Danish version, but I'm not sure it includes the shot of Reptilicus flying. I have the double-feature Blu Ray with "Tentacles" and it makes for a good, trashy, fun evening of rubbish.
