Ya, Chris Christie talks about integrity. Ted Cruz has it here. A guy that did nothing but personal attacks against him and his family, he has no integrity for not endorsing that guy? Even Donald's politics aside it's the opposite, he showed he has it. He showed he is above politics, got to respect him for that. Ted Cruz might have bad opinions but he showed he is a real person here. People are going to look back at this election positively at Cruz just for this moment alone.

You might consider it 'distasteful' if you're a die-hard nationalist, but in the end a flag is just a piece of bright-colored cloth, and burning it doesn't do any harm to you or anybody else, so confusing that form of political protest with a lack of 'moral values' is beyond ridiculous.

To answer what I think is your question: I don't believe for a minute that many Republicans will be voting for Trump, although that won't stop him from becoming President anymore than it stopped him from getting the nomination. A fuckton of Republicans feel betrayed with Trump even being involved, and the issue with Kasich and Cruz - while not the start - is a bitter pill to swallow. The Republican Party is pretty much dead at this point. They got a kick to the nuts with the Tea Party taking over and basically starting a coup they haven't recovered from. Now the Democrats are in much the same position, if not worse.

@jonnythepartisan
8 жыл бұрын
Throwing away his political clout is directing it behind the Democratic Party, where leftist ideals go to die. He should've endorsed Jill Stein, or even ran with her, and led the public movement to the Green Party. The DNC has become another right-wing party and it's time for them to become irrelevant and die, like the federalists, whigs, etc... We can start fighting for the ideals Bernie believes in when we have a genuine party fighting for them. The DNC is not, and will never, be that.
@BushidoBrownSama
8 жыл бұрын
+Honeypaw The DNC does suck and I intend to vote for Jill Stein but If Bernie did what your suggesting neither he nor Jill nor hillary would have won and what's more if no one gets 277 electoral votes the Senate gets to pick anybody who fits the requirements as president and the Senate is dominated by republicans. Do you know what happens under that scenario??? the green party and Bernie become the villains of the mainstream media and those who watch and everything bernie and the greens have built crumbles entirely in classic Icarus fashion. Much as I am loathe to admit it Bernie and Liz made the 100% right decision. They can get a much better compromise working with Hillary than Trump or who evera republican senate might choose for now we need to focus on the Greens reaching a milestone like hitting 5 or 15% of the electorate and earning matching funds for the next race not reaching for the sun that will inevitable melt away our support
@jonnythepartisan
8 жыл бұрын
I understand it would mean that we (the left) would lose this election. We're going to regardless of if it's to Trump or Clinton. What I'm saying is a matter of giving up temporary ground where we cannot win, in order to fight from more stable ground for the long-term victory. Continuing to take the lesser evil no matter what, prolongs the system, and is ultimately how we got here in the first place. We need to break that cycle in order to move forward. When the DNC won the lesser-of-two-evils battle and elected Bill Clinton, he passed right-wing trade deals and expanded right-wing foreign policy. In the aftermath, in public opinion the pendulum swung RIGHT after being burned by right-wing policies because they perceived them as being left-wing since they were enacted by a Democrat. It set the stage for Bush, who further expanded right-wing policy to new levels. The pendulum swung left because the people hated the pain under Bush, and the anti-war movement (one example) re-energized and fought the Bush Doctrine. When Obama was elected, even though he expanded Bush's right-wing policies, it took the wind out of the sails of the anti-war movement because the perception was that the left had won. It didn't. Under 8 years of Obama, the US government moved even more to the right, and the public's perception again erroneously placed the pain of these right-wing policies at the feet of the left. The pendulum moved right when it should've moved left (once again), and it set the stage for another right-wing monster like Trump to run a populist campaign against the democrats. By voting for the DNC regardless of what they do, because we're scared of the ever-growing monsters from the RNC, we allow the DNC to take our votes for granted and obey their donors-- moving more and more right-wing as long as they stay marginally left of the RNC. The only way we can get out of this position is to move our political clout to real left-wing activists who will fight for our positions (the Greens). In the short term, we make the DNC irrelevant by not allowing them to win any elections-- intentionally spoiling and snowballing the shift to the Green Party. When they cannot field a viable candidate, they will die, and our real progress can begin. Yes, in the meantime, leadership under the RNC will be awful. But you know what? The public will at least relate the harmful effects of right-wing policy with right-wing politicians, and the pendulum will swing left and create the urgency to defeat them with actual leftists. As long as the people are satisfied with one-less-than-a-monster, policy will continue to get worse with every cycle.

I think the very last statement nailed it. He may have been feeling all that anger and been justified in not endorsing him, but he could have gone the Kasich route and stayed home. The fact that he did it on the biggest stage possible means that on some level - and I would bet a very big one - he was after the attention. Still (and I despise Ted Cruz), smart move.

Ted Cruz will go the route of Huckabee and Santorum. Like these two he was the darling of the evangelics at the beginning, had a decent run the first time, but he'll burn the second time he runs.

There are a lot of Americans - most Democrats - who view Texans as a vaguely sentient alien life form, a kind of pod people able to mimic human behaviour for whom Ted Cruz is a natural fit as a politician. I don't. I think the people who voted for him hated him just as much as anyone else. Maybe they hated America more... I dunno.

It was 7.8 million to 14 million. That's quite a gap compared to the 13 million 16 million between Bernie and Hillary. Before Cruz dropped out the delegate math would've been impossible to get the total. Trump was winning most of the polls taken, and well, because evangelical candidates never get nominated, because their views are way too extreme and idiotic.
@cardmaverick

Apples to Oranges comparison. Hillary VS Bernie is a two person race. Cruz was against Trump and what, 14 others? Even in the late stages there were still 4 candidates. If you wanna throw down numbers, at least keep the perspective clear.

YOU DON'T ENDORSE SOMEONE THAT HAS BEEN CRUEL TO YOUR FATHER AND TO YOUR WIFE! if Ted Cruz would have sponsored Trump without any consideration for his family he would be worthless. They may say he did not support Trump but at least he is still a man which can look at himself on the mirror every morning without shame of feeling he has degraded himself into a piece of garbage. I don't like all his policies, but I admire him, he is a MAN. Imagine what Christie feels every morning knowing that he lost all his self-respect!

Meltdown? Quite the contrary! Those who voted for Cruz realized Trump was right all along by calling him LYIN' TED. Cruz had the audacity to criticize and ridicule Trump during the first Republican Presidential Debate when the panel were asked: ' Do you pledge to support any of the candidates on this stage in the event one of them gets a majority of delegates during the convention in July'. This was back in 2015. Cruz said: YES. That the young Turks see nothing wrong with that speaks for itself about your integrity.

Actually, I think Cruz made a brilliant move which may turn out very favorably for him. And I think this speech at the convention will definitely be remembered, and in the long-term positively. Every time the Republican candidate loses, there are always bitter recriminations. Typically, the complaint is that the candidate just wasn't a true conservative (hard to believe--I know). Trump most likely is going to loose big-time. Even if he pulls off a political miracle, or Hillary screws up big-time, and Trump somehow wins, he has no clue what he is doing and most likely his presidency will be a train-wreck in four years, or five if he's lucky. Either way, Trump's personality cult will evaporate, and Cruz will be on interviews left and right saying "I told ya so", and will be the obvious front-runner in the next election.
@pidgeon620

They're right. Ted Cruz didn't get "booed off the stage". In fact, he received a standing ovation from half of the convention. The Republicans are fighting their terrible nominee. It's time for the Democrats to do the same. Never ClinTrump!! GARY JOHNSON 2016!!

At least the little weasel is consistent. So Trump brought the other biggest narcissist in politics into the room and expected him to behave like a loyalist statesman. The con man supreme got conned. For that, Cruz briefly has something remotely resembling my respect. But Ted----you have pissed off HERCULES!!!! Ooooh---scary stuff.
