hi, whats the independent variable for this experiment? would it be the leaves being investigated? the solubility of pigments found in leaves being investigated? or maybe the solvent used?

please is all plant pigments collectively called chlorophyll? Am asking this because i know carotene, zanthophyll, phaeophytin etc are different pigments and are not called chlorophyll
