Part of the reason GW don’t credit individual sculptors (I’m not defending it, just elaborating) is that many sculpts aren’t done by an individual artist but are instead the product of a team. This is especially true in modern sculpting where GW has a huge range of digital assets they can simply import/edit into new projects.
@julianfrundt4609

Hey Casey, I love your work! I actually have a question. I bought a Necron Shard of the Nightbringer a while back, and the top half of the scythe was broken off along with the scythe head. I was wondering if you may have any ideas for a replacement?
@eBayMiniatureRescues
5 ай бұрын
Thanks! That's such a rad model! Bummer about the scythe but definitely fixable. There is always 3D printing if you can find a model that has a similar scythe, but getting a resin scythe to match would probably be easier. Kromlech makes "Vibro Scythes" which would be my go-to for fixing that. Just snip off the end and put them together. Otherwise you could salvage a Deathguard or Nighthaunt version from ebay. Either way, not terribly expensive to fix that model and still look pretty close to the original. I hope that helps! bitsofwar.com/space-legions/150-legionary-vibro-scythes.html

@eBayMiniatureRescues

Yeah! I have a GT Sonic, which is really just a name slapped on a Chinese sonic cleaner from Amazon. Generally, they are all the same when they are metal boxes like that. It's best to look on Amazon, specifically for the return policy, and pick up a 2 or 3-liter version. I used a cheap $35 cleaner for a while, and that will work, but if you want it to last then you end up somewhere between $50-$100 depending on if they are on sale. The best thing to do is find one of the metal box versions within your budget and just try it out. I had one that came and didn't work so I was able to return it and just get another one, which is why I recommend Amazon. Hope that helps!

I think the reason they don’t credit the sculptors is the same reason that tin pot dictators often gut their military. They’re worried of a someone rising to power and over throwing them, and the most likely source for someone like that is a military hero rising up against them. In the same way I think gw is worried a sculptor could get popular and if they ended their relationship they don’t want that person taking sales and attention away from their fragile little empire. Maybe I think too little of g dubs but idk

Quick thing about sculptors credits: I'm not entirely sure how GW works internally but most of the industry has moved to digital and GW has "visual language kits", kitbashing but at a digital level. So while someone may do the brunt of the work on a model, you can't credit 100% of the work to them. It may be an even bigger percentage on models with hard surface details. Hell some sculptors may even be continually contributing to the library and at this point it's virtually impossible to credit anyone. I'm not defending GW, I'm pretty sure the reasons are not those (pretty sure GW owns the sculpts copyright at this point and it's mostly a choice to not credit anyone), but that may also explain why it's not as clear cut on a legal level.
@joegkushner
5 ай бұрын
It's not just GW. I enjoy Reaper models but due to the digital natural of things, you can see some things getting reused like pouches on models done by the same sculptor. You see it in the Tomb Guardians range too. Like if it was a cast part, you'd know it was added to those minis because it's exactly the same.
@eBayMiniatureRescues
5 ай бұрын
That definitely makes sense, but I have to imagine that there was creative work done by someone that led to the end product. Daran Latham has talked about some of the newer sculpts he did for Sisters of Battle, which really makes me think that there are more like that. Even if they share assets for basic items, someone had to work on a face and pose, ya know? Either way, it would be nice for GW to share the team, let people get to know them, and see their work. Probably won't happen any time soon though!
