The moral of this thing seems to be "working for the government will inevitably corrupt you". Leon goes from an idealistic boy scout in RE2 to a man willing to cover up zombie outbreaks for the government's benefit. Claire managed to hold true to her values and work in humanitarian work instead of being an assassin and problem-solver for the government. Hence her being appalled by Leon not being willing to tell people the truth about what happened. It's even worse when your realize Leon discovers in RE6 that an Illuminati-style organization controls the entire US govt, and in RE8 Village when the American sponsored BSAA is revealed to be using bioweapons. At what point is there too much corruption in the system to not justify you continuing to work for them?

The only characters that have actually been morally conscious of their career paths are Jill, Claire, and Ada. Claire remained civilian to avoid corruption after seeing Raccoon City’s greed, Jill who seeks unaltered justice through her own investigation after STARS’ betrayal, and Ada relies on allies to follow her through the shadows. They never wavered in their mission for morality even when facing compromise, never lost control over their emotions, nor they never questioned their identity without explanation. They are superior to Chris and Leon in all their endeavors.

@googlehomemini You must not have paid attention, Ada gave Wesker a subordinate strand of Los Plagas. Betraying him, and using his plot for her own gain. She left Simmons employ under the NSA after she learned he nuked Raccoon City. By 2012 she’s saving civilians and rectifying her sins by no longer condoning her employers. She’s an undercover agent, the entire point behind Ada Wong is a cover, it’s a pseudonym, even down to the red dress. Ada portrays herself as a villian to other terrorists in order to get close, only to betray them in the end once she learns their goal. After all, Ada has never contributed to a bioterrorist cell she couldn’t stop herself.
@TheRealAdaWong

@googlehomemini Never confirmed in 1998 so far. A lot of people like to reference Darkside Chronicles, which was canon at the time. However the 2019 Remake sees Ada Wong falling to her “death” and a glimpse of her throwing the rocket. Cinematically and thematically, the game nowhere suggests she is working yet with Wesker. She communicates with an employer yes, but all the game portrayed is that Ada is a spy searching for the G-Virus and used an FBI cover. If anything it furthers the story of 6, Simmons, and the Family. Which Ada was working for Simmons, the federal government, until after Raccoon City’s destruction. Thus why she was already using the guise of an FBI agent in Raccoon City to meet with Bertolucci before the outbreak. She was already a federal freaking agent before any of the outbreaks began. Why do you think she’s always apart of Leon’s missions, the United States? Why else does she always assist US allies in the field regardless of her “mission” with bioterrorists? She’s not just some rogue who changes her mind for the other side on a whim. She’s a calculated, double agent that uses the persona of Ada Wong to get close to bioterrorists. Wesker. Saddler. Simmons. She played them all for the other team.

@@cindylennox2497 wholeheartedly agree. Claire a civil humanitarian, Jill an international investigator, and Ada a global superspy. Literally a trifecta of most superhero and adventure genres. If I were in Capcom creative, they’re exactly who I’d be gambling would be much more likeable and memorable in today’s culture. I wanted to learn more but I dont have the resources to play the games. I’m too busy working to watch playthroughs and read the notes. Netflix, Capcom, whichever should make the OG RE games into a series or a movie to give us, who are interested in the series, a chance to know the story from start to finish. I’m sure RE fans would be forgiving and they could get at least praises and reason to continue on with the story and not waste money only for it to be cancelled. Because throwing in the title with new story is kind of confusing for some, they mentioned Racoon City in this series and for sure those who had no idea what happened there wouldn’t know. I know it wouldnt be as confusing to the big fans of the game so these type of stories is fine. But yeah maybe throw in some of the og resident evil games as series in between. Pls. 👉🏻👈🏻

I totally understand Jason's point of view and what he trying to do in the last episode. I believe the ultimate problem Leon and Claire realized is that Jason can and most likely WILL become unstable after a certain point and hurt the people on the surface after showing himself to them. For as disappointing as the series was at times I definitely do enjoy the theme, Jason introduced to Leon and viewers about how true fear changes people. We can see the parallel between Jason and Leon as by the end of the show, Leon's fear, albeit understandable, is what stops him from spreading the truth with Claire and the chip. Jason is proven right in that regard. Leon, one of the main heroes of the series, stops himself from doing the right thing along with Claire because he is too conflicted. It can be interpreted that Leon's fear of what the public will do with the information stops him from believing that the greater good will most likely prevail. Again, like Jason said. "It starts with fear. Yeah. Humans. Humans fear the unknown. And there is nothing more unknowable than us. As a species... oh, we're unpredictable. We're cruel. Especially when we're trying to survive. Yeah. The Greeks said it best. "There is much to fear in this world... but nothing more so than humans." I truly think this theme was pretty well executed!

I forgot about that Claire until you mentioned her! Haven’t seen her in about 24 years. Claire, Jill, or Ada would work perfect in a sci-if horror thriller. Not just action, but industrial and corporate sci-if. Put Claire in a small town where it’s all controlled by an pharmaceutical company like Halloween III, where everyone is all loyal to company. Slowly stalking her until she’s forced to blow the whistle. Ada or Jill could easily be depicted anywhere from 1998-2005 looking for terrorists abroad. 4:18 and 29:05 I think Claire's tendency for humanitarian efforts are in line with her character. When it came to Racoon City she was just a 19 y/o woman looking for her brother, and just like Leon and the others wasn't expecting or prepared for zombies and monsters and umbrella goons to survive against. She doesn't look for a villain like the others unless she's already involved somehow (RE Revelation 2, RE Degeneration), she wants to help those who've been scarred by bioterrorism and corporate crimes against humanity, her empathy and resolve to help fellow survivors like her is a huge asset and positive quality in her. I really wish they would do a series where we see each of the main-line characters deal with their traumas and emotions without so much of the cheeky one liners. That's why I'm kind of disappointed in the Promotional material they used in RE5's advertising with Chris dealing with PTSD from losing so many people and what he's gone through. There's so much potential in this series and it feels like Capcom can't even crack that potential without spoiling it in so many ways by throwing in a bunch of unnecessary cliches and melodrama. TL;DR Claire not wanting to involve herself in direct combat instead helping fellow survivors is in character for her, Capcom needs to dive more into the concepts of trauma and terrorism without sensationalizing it somehow. Edit: I totally forgot about Veronica X somehow whoops egg on my face yeah she was totally an action girl in that game

He doesn't know who else in the government is involved with the production and use of BOWs and seeing how much the president trusts Leon he is in the best position to find out. But there needs to be logical ways to get to those scenarios. This is a continuation of the characters in a world that reacts to what the games have done. Film, unlike games NEEDS to be based on narrative and not just atmosphere and action because the audience is passive. It makes no sense Leon turns into a government stooge. The reason should’ve been he didn’t want to risk a BOW infecting civilians and the Chip being kept secret could’ve been for Claire’s safety or keeping shit under wraps until they have solid evidence.

ID is pretty much a movie, just separated into 4 parts (all 4 episodes literally add up to your average CG movie runtime). Netflix just wanted to separate it into 4 “episodes” because they think that’s what Netflix fans care about

I’ve only watched this once, which was once more than it deserved, so I could be wrong, but I’m surprised you didn’t point out the insane speed at which Leon and Ada Clone got from China to the underground lab. It’s like they went underground and ran through a tunnel all the way across the ocean back to the US. It was insane, idk if I missed some random dialogue where it says they flew there but they just seem to teleport to where Claire is. I am glad however that you pointed out what a piece of shit Leon is in this show, it’s like complete character assassination. He goes to such insane lengths to protect these terrible things the government is doing and it just doesn’t make sense, and that last scene with Leon is Claire… like wow, he really is a different person. It’s so insanely out of character I hated it. This whole show was so badly written and not well thought out, just seems like Capcom cannot get live action or even CGI movies right.

There's a very good reason why Leon suddenly becomes the final villian in this show. The writers realized if he meets his end goal, his journey is over. Obviously he could still remain in RE fighting BOW's and saving people, but something tells me they didn't think that far ahead and panicked. There is no in series reason why Leon would stand at the goal line and suddenly decide to turn around and metaphorically say fuck you to his allies and the countless victims he would be avenging (and future victims he would be saving). Basically it's the Batman dilemma.

To start with, I did enjoy Infinite Darkness. With that out of the way, it felt way to rushed. If you're going to make something into a series instead of a movie, you'd think that they would spread it out a little more with better pacing. But thanks to it being limited to 4 parts with each part only amounting to basically a two-hour run time, the story just shoots all over the place. And as much as I love to see Claire, her part felt unnecessary. Her part in the story just amounted to her literally learning information that we just learned while following Leon. It felt like she was just there so they could say they made another team-up story between Leon and Claire. Which I might add, they barley spend maybe 5 minutes of screentime together. Honestly, other than that, you basically covered the other shit I had a problem with. So yeah, overall, I enjoyed the story but felt they should have maybe made the parts a little longer. Considering it was on Netflix, it wouldn't have been out of place to have them be at least thirty minutes to an hour each. At least then they could have spread the story out a little better and given us more of what makes Resident Evil... Well, Resident Evil.

When I was a kid; I remember BEGGING for a more adult 3D CGI movie to be made. Personally, I think in the last 20 years or so... Final Fantasy The Spirits Within is still the closest we have ever gotten to a good CGI movie. Yes. Spirits Within. I know right? I think the problem with Claire's face to me is not the nose, but the fact they are always changing the way her model looks. They do it too much that it takes you out of the story most of the time. They should have kept her the same or similar to how she looked in RE2 remake, and stopped the cycle of constantly changing her character model. This by far isn't the worst model though, I would give that to Regeneration. As for Jason, the way I see it is Leon tried to stop him because fear isn't the way to go about it, fear wouldn't have done anything but made the situation worse. That's just my interpretation though. I do agree with you on Shen Mei though, I loved her character and would have wished to see her character in more of the franchise, or at least not see her die like that. All in all, I liked the show, but I can see why others wouldn't. Fun fact: Stephanie Panisello (the voice actress of Claire in RE2 remake and ID, as well as the actress that does the motion capture for Claire) was the one who came up with the idea for Leon and Claire to have their moment when Claire is on top of Leon, for fans of Cleon. lol

My favorite part of the movie was the submarine sequence, because it had me genuinely wondering how Leon was going to escape. I agree 100%, some of Resident Evil’s best comes out of their more noire and ambiguous genres like corporate espionage and political thriller. The most interesting ambient of Resident Evil is always solving the mysteries; rather a citywide outbreak or governments in bed with bioweapons, whodunnit now? I think the series should also stick with their venues longer, I’ll always remember Degeneration for how they turned an airport into a nightmare and simmered in their for a good bit of screen time. The White House is a legendary set piece Resident Evil could really have gone far with given it’s massive layout and multifaceted purpose. Using bioweapons to advance other WMD deterrence would be an interesting and twisted concept that’s lesser used. Like if the US used the T-virus to proliferate WMD’s from a country a la Bush style. Or countering other intelligence agencies from using US bioweapons, like the Stinger Missile incidents from 1986 and how the US lost control of Mujahedin after they armed them with their own missiles. An animated anthology series should be on the table after 20 years, 30 minutes. Different genres each episode like horror, thriller, political, and drama. Where each Resident endures isolated and correlating scenarios in the world at different times, slowly piecing who’s at the center of the pandemonium.

I just think Leon doesn't want to make the US government look bad now that he's working for it. If this incident implicates the US government in those experiments that turned Jason and his unit into a bioweapon hit squad, it could jepordize them, i think. Unfortunately after RE2, Leon was turned into this patriotic super spy very close to the Oval Office instead of a badass counter bio terror specialist.

Leon evolved, his idealism is still there. Believing the government's way is the way he has to follow, it is his duty, it is his job, it is the way it must be done, not releasing info to the public, which is just going to cause paranoia, and chaos, as it is the case with society. Usually idealistic people who are exposed to the way things really work, become cynics. After all, “A paranoid man is a man with all the facts.” William S. Burroughs.

Claire actually had a giant nose in Revelations 2 and seeing as they designed her in this movie based on that game it makes sense. She's also wearing the same outfit she wore in Revelations 2 as well. I get aging is a thing in the RE universe but if anyone was done dirty it was definitely Claire. I mean, we're talking about someone who was absolutely gorgeous (yes, I know she's a video game character LMAO) and now she's just hard to look at. Her story arc in my opinion doesn't make a lot of sense either? I mean we're talking about someone who was trained by her prodigy of a brother in military skills and stormed an umbrella facility by herself? It seems the women of the franchise including Jill keep getting treated like shit.

@@AJadedLizard agreed :/ I was not a fan of Billy whatsoever. I think that game would have been a lot more impactful as well if the second playable character was another STARS member. Jason killed Shen May because of her naivety. She simply believed that if the truth came out all would be justified and humans would do the right thing, however we already know of Jasons nihilstic views of humanity, he killed her out of mercy. This would also explain why he spared Leon since they both were exposed to true terror and Leon was able to both relate to and challenge Jason on a moral level. In the end Claire believed in the good of humanity, similar to Shen May while Leon is becoming more nuanced and conflicted which actually makes a lot of sense considering what he's been through with RE2 & RE4. People may not like that him and Claire are drifting apart, but I respect the writers efforts to provide character development and also feel this brings him closer to Ada's grey morality. I always prefered Leon x Ada anyway 😂😂

To answer your question about Leon actions near the end, it mostly down to fact that his hands are tied by the US Government. From what I've noticed in RE universe the governments of the world don't want people knowing about the BOWs and the war against bio-terrorism, so they cover it up to preventing public panic. Leon sadly can't leak the story to Claire for the risk of losing his job and possibly being black listed by the government, so he's got to keep his mouth shout and I guess it because he knows he can do a lot good behind the curtains in the war against bio-terrorism

I just think animated Resident Evil movie/tv series content is better. Characters look and sound like they're supposed to, everything feels in theme with the series better and uses previous video game content as backstory rather than trying to recreate it. I'm not saying the animated projects are top tier, 100% necessary and amazing but I definitley think they have the possiblity to be very good with the right writing and stories getting explored.
