Hey there, I saw your post & quick-vid in the Resin group I'm in on Facebook & had to come have a "look-see" I Love this Resin Piece!! I took the plunge just under a year ago and started doing Acrylic Abstract Art , Resin Art & Mixed Media. I use Pro Marine, Stonecoat Countertops, & Art Resin; depending on my Substrate. I have never used Sheet Metal though!! That is brilliant!! [Canvas, MDF, Cradled Board, Glass, Furniture.] Is what I've done so far, but you slam-dunked this !!! Way to go! Your video presentation & Resin Art are both impressive & immaculate! You've got a new Sub for sure! One question: I have over 100 pigment Powders, Pastes, Mica's of varying densities, etc. Along with Acrylic Paints, Alcohol Inks, & Acrylic Inks. Do I need to purchase "Aluminum Mica's" also, to lay over the sheet metal better? Sorry, this is so long! Merry Christmas & a Blessed New Year to you & yours!👍😁🎁🎄🎉🎨🖌☃️👍

Merry Christmas Jenna. Thank you 😊 for the great comment. As far as telling you yes or no on the metal powders from Art Tree... I would say yes , get them. I have a ton of products also. Just like you. From various different manufacturers. These metal pigments do things that I’ve never seen an ink, paint, paste, or anything else ever do. They are a pure metal pigment. No binders, and not cut down with additives at all. I’ve even mixed them in with colors, and made weird colors that once you heat , cells and lacing appear. They are a fantastic product. Plus it doesn’t take a whole lot. They will last you a very , very long time. ♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️. Merry Christmas Jenna 😀😀🤗🤗

Love this piece. I can't wait to try this for myself and bonus my husband is a Sheetmetal worker. At what size in both round and square/rectangular do you recommend bracing? Could you do a square shaped brace on a round piece.
@amazinga.f.artwork9047

I would think so. For the square on a round. I just epoxied some metal to the back to brace this one. I think 🤔 I showed the back in one of my videos on alcohol inks and resin. It’s been work really well.

Ya, been doing this a while, not loyal to any certain resin. It's a shame the camera can't pick up the true life of the piece. Been doing some things differently but definitely gonna try your technique. Ps, I use schlueter strip and 2 part epoxy from auto zone to stabilize the thin stuff. Lowes for schlueter strip in the event your intrested. Just a thought. Much love and respect brother.. peace out...

Would the resin hold up if you put that outside? That would be so beautiful in a garden as a focal point.

I think 🤔 it would for a few years. Honestly with the metal in direct heat and sunlight , it may fade a little over time. I would definitely flood coat it with countertop Fx. It can take a little more heat than promarine can. You could try something smaller first and see how it looks after a while. Then go bigger , or you could go big and chance It. To be honest , I’ve never put one in direct sunlight like that for extended periods of time. I know Raka Resin in Florida has a pretty good Uv inhibitor resin they use on things that go outside. They told me about on the phone once. I guess to answer your question , I don’t honestly know. It’s worth giving it a try though 😊

Hi, this is gorgeous. Can I ask how would you mount this for hanging. And if you put a frame around it how would you do it. Thanks from Melbourne, Australia.
@amazinga.f.artwork9047

Lina Ferlazzo in a previous video I show the back of it. I mounted some aluminum bars on the back. Then epoxied some hangers into it. In the future though, I plan on making a frame to go around some. It’s the painting with alcohol inks video. Kinda pinkish blue logo. Towards the end of the video it shows the back of the aluminum. And thank you 😊. This one is in my bedroom , and I look at it every morning when I wake up. I guess how I would do it would be to build a frame , router a small part with a channel for it to lay in , then silicone the back to seal the resin into the frame. So when the art work is being done , it’s almost like it’s in a frame being casted sort of. If that makes any sense. I know Scotty at art tree makes some awesome aluminum substrate panels. I think 🤔 he mounts his on wood already. I haven’t asked him what gauge he uses though. Plus Scotty is super nice. He may be able to build you something custom too. I guess I would look at it both ways , build your own. Or see what Scotty has. I need to get back to my aluminum soon. I love the way it looks 😀😀🤗🤗. Thank you for the compliment. Hope all is well in Melbourne 😊

@@amazinga.f.artwork9047 I really love those colours and how you've put them on that panel, I'm going to have to try it. Thanks for the suggestions. I've seen that video of how you mount those bars on the back and that's a great idea too. Yes that's what I was thinking that it would sort of sit inside the frame resined in. I know what you mean. I hope you do a video if you make it like that. I do buy most of my art materials from Art Tree and recently bought an aluminium round from them which I haven't used yet. I want to try alcohol inks on it, then seal and resin it. We're in stage 4 lockdown here in Melbourne so everything is mostly closed but we can still order online. I'm actually waiting for another order from Art Tree to arrive. If everyone just stayed home we might get rid of this virus but some people just can't be told. Thanks again and love you videos. Will try and see all of them. Stay safe there too.

Hello again bro! How is everything going! I have another question (sorry!!) how do you prevent your aluminum panel from getting oxide? Or rust? I would like to know if I have to apply a self etching primer or something prior to do the alcohol inks and resin on it, or if is safe to do the art without applying any special anti corrosion/oxidation product to the aluminum. Thbk u!!!! Have a nice week!!! 🙌👍🏻
@amazinga.f.artwork9047

Rodrigo A well it all depends on how your going to do it. Most people seal alcohol inks with Kamar varnish. Plus a UV protector. On galvanized metal , I’ve used self etching primer before. Front and back , to to fluid paintings on. I haven’t had any issues at at. So on the back of the panel , you can seal that with a self etching primer. I would say you should be ok.

Where do you get the aluminum and how do you get the drops off aluminum? Do you tape the back?
@amazinga.f.artwork9047
4 жыл бұрын
Art by Amanda Pratt yes I tape off the back. This is 16 gauge aluminum panel that I made. My neighbor Cecil actually had 4 4 by 8 sheets left over from a job site. That’s how I acquired this. I have done some checking at local metal shops , and they sell the same kind of aluminum also in Des Moines. To find it , I would search metal suppliers or metal fabrication. Then see what google pops up for local suppliers. Plus if you don’t have access to a shear to cut the metal , I would have them cut it for you also. In the ink video last week , I showed the back and how I have a couple of them supported. It likes to kinda sag in the middle if it’s not supported. Plus if you do grind on it , stay away from your edges. Hope this helps ya out 😀😀😀. Merry Christmas 🎄. Oh and on the back , it comes of nice with a razor blade. Just get under it a little , and get it going. Then it comes off pretty easily.

What would be the process to attach something like Seaglass to the board with your resin to add texture? How would you attach a frame to the back of the aluminum to create a floating frame effect? Thank you.
