"Reskinning" RV Door
Today, Sharon, one of the Two Tired Teachers will show us one method of Reskinning an RV door.
This is actually "Reskinning the Door," Part 2; however, you won't find a Part I. Sharon said she is sparing us that.
The reason she is working on the door is because over the years, we've developed a number of stress cracks on the door. At first Sharon had tried using a textured paintable wall paper on the door. The problem was it didn't stick well. Not one to let that deter her, she tried again with some
permanent vinyl wall paper.
Before she even opened the wall paper, she thoroughly cleaned the door. Since she had used another product on it, she wanted to clean any glue off the door. After cleaning the door, Sharon taped around the window with some painters' tape. The vinyl says it's permanent, and if any got on the window, Sharon wanted to be able to simply peel the tape.
With the backing still on the vinyl, Sharon laid it out and taped it to the door so that she could easily cut around the window with a razor blade. She did the left side of the door first, then repeated the process on the right side.
To do the top of the door, Sharon took the template of the door, laid it out on her dining table, and cut the vinyl using that pattern. Again, she did the left half of the door first, and then she did the right.
The finished product is beautiful. It's been over six months, and the vinyl is sticking extremely well.
A word of warning: Things may not be perfectly centered on the door. One side of ours was 4" while the other side was 4 1/2."
