One thing that I've noticed you do in some videos (and a few times in this one) is you fire your missiles off too early. At 1:25:02 you can see it clearly. When you're in range, your plane will say you can shoot by literally saying "Shoot" and turning on the two orange lights near the top of your cockpit. You can also check how far it can go by looking near the altitude bar on the side. When you lock on to a plane, you can see a line pop up alongside an arrow(underneath the altitude indicator). The arrow is how far the target is, while the top of the line indicates the max range of the missile. I'm not sure what the second area(or whatever) of that line means, I'm pretty sure it means either the "no escape" range or where the booster is active. It's also possible to fire off your missiles too close, like the CAGM-6, I've done that a few times. You can see this happening at 33:10, it was locked, you just fired too close I've also had no problems with the CBU-97? Dunno what you did wrong there, could also try changing the release area 1:06:30 Also yes you are correct you don't need to use the MARK laser, it's legit there just to show other people what you're aiming at, example is multiplayer and you're trying to show another person where a target is but they can't find it 1:11:11 means you can have it dodge gun fire and missiles when it's approaching a ship (the SSEvasive mode), and yeah pretty sure it didn't work cause it wasn't a ship haha Also good job on the tutorial, learned a few more things that I didn't know

For the unguided bombs, it is hard to see your impact point through the plane. You can fix this by setting the TGP mode to “PIP”. (Predictive impact point). It will point the TGP where the bomb will land allowing you to basically see through the aircraft. Also works with hydra rockets and your gun.

The CBU-97 is actually very precise and intelligent, as its individual bomblets are thermally aimed and automatically seek out tanks and other hot targets to destroy. It is not a conventional, "dumb" cluster bomb. The game doesn't make this very clear.

This is great! The game doesn’t make it super obvious what each weapon does, and I’m just starting out with VTOL VR. Keep up the great videos! Love the overlay of you with the headset on over the game too.

FYI the "Ripple" numbers indicate the amount of ordinance shot/dropped per minute if continuously fired. Aka ripple 120 on the hydras would mean with a continous trigger pull you'd shoot 120 rockets a minute, 60 rockets per 30 seconds, or 2 rockets a second.

Great video. I keep coming back to your videos because they are the most instructive. You talk through your reasoning and what you are doing. You leave in the shots you miss, which is honestly great as it's more informative than hitting every single target first time. Thanks for making these videos!

Salvo is amount of munitions fired/ dropped per "trigger pull" ripple is time between next trigger pull. I believe 120 is 120 per min per weapon pod/bomb , 600 is 600 per min per weapon pod/bomb , etc.. If you are going for a quick cluster of bombs sprinkled over a target, then put Salvo to max and ripple to max. This will drop 4 bombs at the same time, and allow for very little delay until the next 4 are dropped. The same concept applies to hydra rockets. If you want to absolutely spray your poor target with munitions, then Salvo max and ripple max, just don't expect your ammo supply to stick around for very long, even if you are strapped to the teeth.

The missile with sea-skim, ss evasive and top down strike is a dedicated anti ship missile. It has a proprietary radar and will lock onto a ship after reaching terminal mode to lead its movement. For sea skim, ss evasive and top down to work you have to setup a GPS path for it to follow. Upon reaching a close enough distance from the target it will dodge side to side and dodge side to side then pop up for ss evasive and top down respectively. The anti ship missile will act as any old missile if these modes are not activated, simple flying in a straight line towards the ship, leading it as it needs. The air to ground cruise missile does not have these modes, but will still follow a GPS path and I believe it also has radar to lead moving targets, although I am not quite sure

Would it be possible to set autopilot to nav and have your GPS coordinates for your bombs be a travel path? Like you set up targets, the plane takes you to the correct spots?
@kruger78
2 жыл бұрын
Henry, yes, I believe this is possible as the auto pilot follows the nav points on the map the same way as a cruise missile would

I believe the ripple is the rate a weapon fires per minute, so a ripple of 120 is equivalent to 2 per second.
@kruger78
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you are absolutely right. Whilst I knew what ripple roughly means (i.e. rate of release) I wasn’t on top of the numbers behind it, thank you for clarifying
@yuyuko_s75

Bomb ripple is usually expressed in feet of separation in other sims, but it's not very clear if it's so in VTOL VR.
@kruger78
2 жыл бұрын
@@yuyuko_s75 I think I understand this now much better. Ripple rate is the rate of release, as explained here earlier by engrtiocs - 120 ripple means 120 per minute so 2 every second. Salvo in this case means how many to release at once. So, Salvo 2 with ripple 120 means it drops 2 x 2 bombs every second. And then there is area, default at 25 in the settings (metres or feet, I have metric units so probably meters) which probably means how spread out the bombs will be around the principle target.

I get a lot of questions about this, maybe I should do a video 😉 Basically, not a mod. I record myself whilst playing with GoPro with green screen behind and I record VTOL on OBS. I then merge the two in Premiere and set up the mask and that’s it. I experimented a lot in few videos and this one turned out the best as my head appears to be inside the helmet

I had lots of comments about this and though I tried everything, I just can’t do it. There is no sensitivity settings and the smooth look I’m using is as good as it gets. The problem is that I record while flying a mission so the head naturally bobs each and every way and I don’t realise it until I see it myself in 2D. If VTOL had a replay feature, I’d do it over a replay as that way I could focus more on the head stability.

I appreciate the effort you made to clone stamp the cursor, I know the pain 😂 Can't remember the name right now but you should get an app that auto hides the cursor after x seconds of inactivity to save on future headaches.

Well spotted :) its driving me crazy, the cursor is not there when I work in desktop through VR and when I fly, the actual mouse is not within reach so I only find it once it is recorded 🤦🏻♂️. Good advice though, I will try to find an auto-hide app, that could solve the problem. Perhaps there is something in windows too 🤔
