Have you ever made Ranch dressing at home? What kind of milk did you use? Would love to know how it turned out!! 😀

I used buttermilk. But it didn’t work. I will be trying yours now.

Through trial and error I prefer using dried herbs because fresh herbs change the flavor over time.

WOW!!!! I just finished making this and it is AMAZING!!!!! Thank you so much for this fantastic recipe. 😃❤️❤️❤️❤️ (I had some sour cream but I replaced it with some full fat organic Greek yogurt that I had and needed to use… Yum!)

What a great idea to use up the Greek yogurt! And a healthier alternative, too! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment, Robin!

Looks awesome. Can't wait to try. WONDERING...has anyone ever used this recipe as the base for a "Chipolte Ranch?" Curious if it's a simple matter of adding [some amount] of one's favorite homemade salsa?

How long is it safe to stay in the fridge?

I wouldn’t leave it much longer than a week. It won’t have much preservatives in it.

Just take the closest expiration date of the mayo, sour cream, or buttermilk. Then it's most likely good for a few days beyond that. And store it in the coldest part of your fridge (assuming that part of your fridge doesn't freeze). In general you should be able to get a few weeks out of it. And remember, buttermilk lasts quite a bit longer than the "best by" date.

Just made the ranch. The buttermilk smelt bad. I just bought it from a local farm. Does buttermilk not taste good? I love milk and half and half. Buttermilk had a bitter taste to it. Is that normal?

Homemade ranch will last as long as your buttermilk had left on the expiration date (if it was fresh, up to 2 weeks!) However, the fresh herbs will lose their flavor after about a week.

If you bought the ingredients today, it will last quite a long time. And remember, buttermilk will last well beyond its best by date, so you can use the same container for several batches. Generally, the ranch will last about as long as the sour cream expiration.

I figgure, if none of your ingredients were bad, it May taste different depending on the kind of mayo used. The taste of olive oil mayo makes me gag, it is the classic or nothing

Warning - be aware that food choice/preference may not work with you. I tried to go vegan but I had health complications. Make sure that you know what you're allergic to or have an intolerance for. I can't do some almond milk (some have peas in it) and no oat milk (gluten). I have an allergic reaction to peas (apparently a lot of people do, and the FDA is considering putting a warning), and I have Hashimotos (autoimmune disease to gluten). Which sucks because a lot of "healthier" and "clean" options are off the table. Luckily, I have no dairy or nut issues because that WOULD SUCK! Just want to put that there.

I honestly still dont understand being vegan or vegitarian, especially since 90% of the food is plant based meat, it tastes like meat, so just eat meat its easier, but im not one too judge.

I hear what you're saying. But I'd like to provide some context. As a FORMER vegetarian. When I was vegetarian, I never disliked the TASTE of meat. I disliked that I was causing the death of an animal. When I got home from the middle east, I realized WHY we give humans more rights than animals. I dont have a problem with killing animals anymore. I hunt, I fish, and I cook meat regularly. But that doesnt change what motivated me. Having a replacement for comfort foods like chicken wings or burgers... that let me hit many of the same taste/texture dopamine triggers, but didnt break my moral convictions. It's also worth noting, long term vegetarians dont tend towards meat substitutes at home. They tend towards non-meat dishes theyve learned to make for cheap. Just like meat eaters dont tend towards filet mignon and lobster on a daily basis. However, most vegetarians/vegans are new. As in, they havent done it for more than 2 years. This new crowd also tends towards affluence. Folks with 10+ years dont have a tendency towards a particular class, so you see a lot more variety in cost/techniques. Instead of the trend towards "I'll pay extra to have my old diet without the moral grey area". Idk bud. I understand the confusion, but it's also super easy to get. We all get that eating people is bad. If somebody said "I wont eat people", but then turned around and made meals specifically because they tasted like people... youd be rightly weirded out. But objectively, that person isnt eating people, even if you dont understand it. Now imagine a world where eating people is normal. So normal that human meat is a comfort food in every show you watch, is available for $2.99 at the gas station, and you're shamed for not eating it. Animal-only eaters in that culture are gonna LIKE the taste of human meat. But making chicken taste like human meat... it's still not human. It's about getting the dopamine of a comfort food without the guilty conscience associated with breaking one's own moral convictions.
