In this video I restore an antique nutcracker. The nutcracker is stamped with the words BLAKE PATENT 1853.
This restoration was pretty straight forward. After disassembly I chose to replace the old warped wood with a nice piece of walnut, fitting for the walnut cracker. The steel was very pitted and I did my best to polish the surface without removing too much material or the words.
With every project I strive to try something new. This time I decided to try gold plating the piece. In my research I found that gold does not adhere to steel very well so you have to apply a thin layer of nickel. I really think the gold looks great with the walnut, let me know what you think!
I hope you guys enjoyed the video, if you do leave a like and a comment. Subscribe if you would like to see more awesome content ;).
Much Love,
