Hello folks! Today I have a new restoration of the Caucasian Dagger for you. The release period is the second half of the 19th century, eastern Georgia. The dagger has no dales, which gives its advantage during sharpening and the practical side. This dagger, in its simplicity, most likely belonged to a shepherd or a warior. But, my task is to restore and give a new life and return to its former glory. Let's start the recovery!
The first duty I took off the accessories of the scabbard. As for the scabbard, they have rotted completely, but they have not crumbled, so it is possible that I will give it to the museum for viewing.
Next, the handle of the dagger, according to the classics, is made of horn, when parsing it, I managed to break off a piece. The horn is very dry, most likely (judging by the scabbard and the skin they are glued to) the object has been lying in the sun in a very dry place for a long time.
After disassembling the handle, I placed the blade rust remover and the rest of the scabbard parts. After cleaning and neutralizing the acid, by immersing the object in warm water with soda. I started polishing the blade, but my task is to clean, remove scratches and in no case make an ordinary shiny object out of it. After completing the blade, I moved on to the handle.
To restore the handle, I used two-component glue (epoxy resin) paint and sawdust horns. After hardening, I began to polish the handle and give it the desired look. Then, having adjusted the dagger under the handle, I glued it, clamped it with bolts, because further processing is still ahead. After the whole process, I riveted the hilt and moved on to the dagger sheath.
The scabbard was made of linden, covered with natural thin leather. I restored the accessories of the scabbard, but left the old look as much as possible. As usual, I conducted a dagger test and prepared a dish, but you can already watch it on my cooking channel. The link is also in the description of this video below.
