You turned a knife-shaped piece of rust into a knife. That's about as good as that one was ever going to get. Well done, marra. It still looks as if it's 130 years old. Whether or not that age is accurate, it's seen a war or two, I reckon. Yes to knives; no to war.

When you first showed the "before" photos of this knife I thought there was no way it could be saved. WELL DONE!! You couldn't have seen it before you started on that brass guard but after it failed, wow, it was trash, there was no way it was going to work. Not your fault though you couldn't see the faults inside the metal. The steel piece looks great. And I agree with another commenter that drilling into the bone handle had me holding my breath, just waiting for it to shatter. There is a show here in the US called "Forged in Fire". They have people volunteer to go in for knife making competitions and when someone picks bone as a handle material it almost always breaks. I don't know how you did it but it came out beautiful.

I have a helpful hint for using antler for knife handles. Instead of drilling and glueing. You take antler and put it in boiling water. Then you take knife handle and just push it into the antler. It will be soft. And it goes back hard like glue when it dries. Will never come out.
