Happy to help. Still using these gloves, though I did accidentally cut the tip of one finger with a grinder. I sewed it up and it seems to be holding. Stay well.

Adding a bit of heat really helps the wax to be in the leather, less on the surface of the leather

Or just heating up the wax before you start rubbing it in and doing it indor when the temperature is warm enough.

Thanks for stopping by. Ol' Duke is one of the true inspirations out there. You'll find my channel a bit more "random" than his, but I always come back to my original concepts: DIY, self-reliance, outdoors, projects and of course a bit of weirdness from time-to-time. Glad you're here. Thanks again. Peace.

"Restore" in the title is misleading. Your gloves are in great shape. Any tips on patching holes? Sew or glue? Cleaning?
@HNXMedia
Жыл бұрын
I have a leather shop, so all "patching" is done by hand sewing. Cleaning is mild soap (Dawn) and water followed up by neats foot oil or beeswax or a combination of both.

I treat mine "as needed" whenever they become stiff from getting wet and then drying back out.

How do you wash them? Washing machine? Thank you... and thanks for this video... I just got some cactus needles (?) on a finger tip or two of the glove... May throw these away because it hurts to get needles out... Ouch!
@HNXMedia

I would not pit them in the washer. I would just use a "saddle soap" or other mild soap/water. I typically don't "wash" mine I just smack the heavy dirt off them, condition them like in the video and keep on keeping on. Hope this helps.

I had to wash mine because I spilled Cider on them. They look good now, and if they harden up when they dry I will use mineral oil or beeswax, thanks for your suggestion.

I have some white kid leather winter gloves, and I was wondering how to clean them. Because they were so damaged I just threw them in the washer, and they came out nicely, but I need to know how to keep them soft. I don't know if beeswax would be the right thing to use on them
@HNXMedia

For some reason, this comment made me fall over laughing. Not sure exactly what qualifies as "white kid winter gloves" but I found the description hysterical. Anyway, as long as the gloves are real leather, yes, beeswax or a good beeswax/petroleum jelly blend or even neats foot oil/beeswax blend will work to revitalize them. I also have a video about making your own leather balm for super cheap: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qpCb22iDi6uiaIY

@@HNXMedia "Kid" leather is a type of thinner (more flexible) leather. White just describes the color so this person is talking about a dressier glove probably for driving or fashion use only.
