So if even after cleaning the joystick has a lot of wobble/dead space, is that generally indicative of the bearing being worn out and needing replacement? I'm thinking I'll have to get a full new joystick assembly if that's the case?

Could be. The bearing is locked inside the main housing. But that rarely goes bad. Nintendo sticks are a bit sloppy and mechanical compared to most anyways. You may need a new spring, spring stopper, or switch collar. I’d reach out to Mike’s Arcade and see what he had in stock.

@@Chancekj My P2 stick is pretty good, so I swapped over the spring, spring stopper, and switch collar last night from P2 to P1 and P1 stick still felt super sloppy. I'm pretty sure it's the original sticks in there so it's probably had quite a bit of use over its lifetime. I'll reach out and see what Mike has. Thanks!

Thanks for another great video here. These are great references both for the thinking mode of the arcade hobby as well as the hands on mode.

I have a new joystick from Mikes arcade for my donkey Kong. It’s starting to stick a little going left and the return is sluggish. Any suggestions?

Could need a cleaning. I’d reach out to Mike and see of he has advice.

@@Chancekj thanks. I took it apart and added some grease to the bearing and it seems to be better. I also added a stronger spring which is really helping. The stock spring is really weak.

@@therexershow yeah, it’s probably worn out. I had a couple that way.

I just saw one of you vids the other day, and today after watching a few more, I decided to sub! Its kind of ironic though, because while I am a gamer, arcades where a bit before my time. I dont know why, but there's something about arcade cabinets that has really peaked my interest lately.

Use some Borax for cleaning parts and a wire brush to remove the rust or you can try some coca cola
