I restore an old and very damaged vintage Sheffield steel chisel made by John Stead & Company. From my research, I have found that this chisel is well over 60 years old, possibly closer to 80. It was covered in concrete, had a dull chipped blade and the handle was so damaged from years of hammering that it needed to be replaced!
I have limited tools but love to come up with creative ideas to get the job done. I used spalted maple for the handle. I don't have a lathe so had to figure a way to turn a handle using my table saw.
I gave the chisel a new cutting edge, a brass ferule, and then finished the handle with coat of oil. I am very happy with the results.
