Toasty Corn Flakes..I bought one too! I used an air operated one at HSV Holden years ago fitting hinges for Maloo rear tray covers and wanted one ever since..seeing Jeff using his manual one reminded me how good they are. Very useful to have around and easy to use.

Loved your comment concerning the Porsche badge, "Whoever 'repaired' the car last....". No Jeff, the last person did nothing to 'repair' the car, they mucked it up by doing half-ass temporary fixes on problem areas, did nothing to fix the rust, etc, etc, etc....... This is why you have Part 68 Classic Car Repair on KZitem. The person who is really repairing the Porsche is you. Great job so far. Fully understand the reason to move on now that the Porsche is in a somewhat holding pattern while waiting for the engine. One area I have really appreciated concerning your videos is you show that the restoration of a vehicle is more than just paint, shining the chrome, cleaning the engine, and new upholstery. All the small 'bits', as you call them, are just as important as the big stuff. Sometimes more important. Thanks for taking us with you on the journey with the Porsche. Can't wait to see how working on the 'Z' will bring its own set of problems and solutions. Two questions concerning the Porsche badge: Did you have to thin the paint/enamel to ensure coverage while allowing the texture to show through? Have you considered welding/soldering another pin on the badge instead of using double-sided tape? It might be a longer lasting solution.
@HomeBuiltByJeff
7 жыл бұрын
You are spot on, the small bits are tedious, but vital. As for the badge, I am not too concerned about only having one pin. Most of what the pins do, is get the badge in the correct spot, the double sided tape is really what is holding it on. As for the paint. I used some of my old pinstriping enamel from my airbrushing days, and at first I thinned it a bit, but it was too transparent. I ended up not thinning it and you can still see the brush strokes, but you have to be very close to notice. It should have a gasket under it though, which I may need to get and install.

I've been watching this man's build for some time now. The level of skill involved in every little step is just great. body and paint, deep mechanical work, Leather and sears work! detailing. the inclusiveness of his skill-set and the finesse in each one of the skills is just incredible. how humble he is about it and even making what he does seem unremarkable is also more incredible. Great Patience, persistence and quiet resolve. there's much to learn from this channel.

Yah more rivnuts! I finally bought a lever type rivnut gun from Ebay that does up to 12mm..very happy thanks for keeping on reminding me how useful they are. I have been using it already for modifying garage window frames. Wow that sand blasted badge came out well. Hope the engine rebuild goes smoothly.

Love my rivnuts. They make things so much neater and tidier. Although I have been warned that if the bolt can corrode in them, you can end up getting them to spin in place and then you have to cut them out.
@truthseeker8483
7 жыл бұрын
If your worried about corrosion a little anti seize grease may stop it ever happening. Rivnuts are especially useful to me because I have no welder yet...so everything I make has to be bolted in position and when working on cars its always better to be bolting stuff on than welding it on especially sheet metal sections

Hi Jeff, greetings from Leeds (UK). Fantastic videos, forget Wheeler Dealers and Fast N Loud on Discovery-an absolute inspiration. So much so, i'm planning to buy an old Z4 3.0 for the weekend (sadly my budget won't afford an old 911!) where I can do some subtle restoration and modifications (start small hey)! Can't wait to annoy my wife again broadcasting 'that bloody guy with the orange car' videos to the TV in my lounge and see the final episodes, and hopefully a detailed test drive video! Best regards, Stuart

In the U.S. some states don't require a number plate in the front, but our plates are taller and more narrow. As cars are regulated state-by-state in the U.S. what can be legal in one state can be illegal in another. Number plate visibility/lighting laws is all over the place here.
@HomeBuiltByJeff
7 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that from my travels. In California it seems like every second car has no plates at all, just dealer advertising. I would love to get away with that here, I wouldn't have to worry about all the speed and red light cameras ;)
@joshuawalker7054
7 жыл бұрын
In California if you bought a new car and had it for less than 6 months, a plate wasn't required. However, there was a very high-profile hit-and-run death recently in Cali that made them change the law. Starting in 2019 you will need a temp paper plate after buying the car.

hi Jeff, I love your videos, your work is amaising. I have a question regarding rivnuts. As I understand the nuts made of aluminium and with carbody metal it will make voltaic couple where rust could start. Please advise had you any issues with it? Maybe you use some kind of spacers or smth not to allow aluminium touch steel in the hole?
@HomeBuiltByJeff
7 жыл бұрын
I used steel rivnuts in the metal work, and aluminium ones in the fibreglass. I still have to be careful with the steel bolts going into the aluminium rivnuts though.
