The weather was finally perfect for removing the overgrown hawthorns. Opening the meadow backup, has significantly reducing fuels on the property! The extra bonus has been watching the deer with our much better views into the treeline.
After doing a test run, late in the winter, we had our doubts on how successful we might be in removing the root systems. Turns out, if you time it right with soil moisture, they come out reasonably easy.
With a seasonal creek running through the meadow, we left a few mature hawthorns for shade, habitat and their root systems helping to maintain the creeks underground structure. We hope we found a good balance!
Thanks for Watching!
