@@claudeyaz Yep. It’s directed at the Sephora kids. Plus, retinol for wrinkles has always been recommended for 25+, but for people you get than 25, adapelene (namely differin) has been recommended. PREACH THIS LOUDER!!! I’ve heard so many people hating on Retinol lately, but for some people it’s an amazing ingredient. I have been using Tretinoin since I was maybe 14 or 15 for acne, and now I’m 22 and have finally, FINALLY figured out how to use it. It’s not an easy process to figure out and everyone is so different. For me, my skin when I started using Tretinoin was super oily, still is oily and acne prone, but now it’s super clear compared to when I was 12-21, and whenever I’d use Tretinoin, my skin would get so insanely dry and peel off. Well, that’s because I’d use it AFTER my moisturizer, IF I EVEN MOISTURIZED (I know, huge mistake), and I would put on a thick layer (mistake number 2), and use it multiple nights in a row (mistake 3), hoping that by causing my skin to become super dry and peel off, it was working. So so so bad, I know and have learned. Retinol may not work for everyone at all times, but really taking it easy if you’re a good candidate for it and learning how it works with your skin can make a world of a difference and I use it 1-2 times a week and my skin hasn’t been this clear since 4th grade (besides taking Augmentin for 4 years, which cleared my skin).

The key here is that these teens and young adults go to a dermatologist first to get prescribed or recommended products. It’s also clear from these comments that that’s what the kids are doing. We’re talking about the ones who want these products cause an influencer they like uses it. Or it’s used on a tv show. There are also milder alternatives that folks should consider if they’re not being prescribed a specific product or prescription. I was really bad at keeping up with skincare until this year. I started with the simplest routine ever (cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen), then I slowly started adding more products into my skincare, including retinols. I use retinol twice a week and my skin has no problem with it. Looking back, I regret not starting my skincare earlier because I have very dry, eczema prone skin that would crack and bleed during the winter. Not mentioning the eczema that would appear on top. I can't believe I was going through that all the time just because I didn't want to put a fucking moisturiser on my skin. I agree that teenagers may not need retinols (depending on the case), but I also think it is important to start slowly incorporating them before the aging process beggins to show up. Also, you shouldn't have to deal with horrible acne just because "you're too young for retinols".

I have severe acne, and acne scarring, and my dermatologist had given me retinol ointment to apply on the scarrs. Within a week of using it though, I started to have extreme pain in my joints, wrists, and everywhere in general. I brought this up with my doc, and he disregarded it and said its nothing and that I should continue using it...safe to say I never went back to that hospital, or using retinol. Still have acne and scarring unfortunately. Apparently puberty decided to hit me after I turned 20

This is why I’m always kinda annoyed when people just make a blanket statement saying ALL teens or children don’t need skin care or retinol because I sure as hell needed it when I was younger if not I would’ve suffered from really painful pimples 😭😭

i used to have cystic acne and my dermatologist prescribed me retinol. it worked wonders and my skin is *almost* clear, i’m still a teenager so i don’t expect it to fully go away until i’m done growing. so yeah idk what that first lady was talking about

Man I’ve been on every acne medication under the sun. Been to the dermatologist since I was 12. Had 3 rounds of acutane, been on retinols, tretinoin, niacinamide, anti fungal pills, creams. Moisturizers, chemical peels, face washes that smell like eggs. You name it. I finally am to the point where my skin isn’t a ton of baby volcanoes waiting to erupt. I go to the dermatologist about every 6 months. I am on birth control, I use retinol every other day, moisturizer every morning and night, aha bha peel every week, and a niacinamide serum every night. I still have break outs but for sure retinol is not just for the use for 25+. I’ll be 20 next month. And my dermatologist said I was his toughest patients because things seemed to work for a minute and then right back to how it was a few months later

Im a dude so I can’t speak for the birth control portion of this. But your story sounds very similar to mine. I struggled with cystic acne until 22. (lockdown happened and I just stopped caring about everything) Which, coincidentally, was the year I stopped doing skincare all together. I just cleanse my face with a gentle cleanser and use a light moisturizer. I’m now 26 and haven’t struggled with acne ever since. Not even a short period of time where I was getting zits. My key for me was to just stop caring and stressing over my skincare routine. I actually even look younger than I did back then too. Maybe less is more sometimes?

When i was 16 my dermatologist prescribed me tretinoin 0.4%w/w . Because i had Comedonal acne but now im 18 and im still using it even though i don't have Comedonal acne. According to me retinols are great option for people having acne or Whiteheads. If you have acne marks it can even help to reduce it .

I’m 24 and I never had acne until my 20s. My treatment is a combo of things but the only thing that would get that last little bit is .025 tretinoin.

I only started using retinol at 26 but it was mostly for acne. It’s crazy, when I was a teenager I had almost no trouble with acne, but after puberty my skin breaks out all the time. Retinol and aha/bha seems to be the only thing that helps. I use snail mucin to help protect my skin barrier because it is definitely on the more sensitive side.

Nah. I started retinol when I was 18. The best solution for my acne. I use it all the time. Literally best thing. If I can pick one thing it is retinol

I've been using prescription tretinoin since I was 16 to help cure my acne. I've been using it for more than 10 years throughout my 20s. I still get occasional breakouts but I don't have any wrinkles. FYI: tretinoin contains retinoic acid (synthetic form of vitamin A) and is around 20 times more potent than retinol found in over the counter skincare, hence why its only available through prescription.

I have very sensitive skin. I used rosehip oil and glycolic acid instead in my early twenties. I think that was quite effective. However, I WISH I had used retinol/tretinoin on my cystic acne and early neck wrinkles. I think that would have been very beneficial.

THANK YOU!!! Obviously the tween Sephora kids don’t need a retinol but I just turned 18 but have been using acids at a younger age (probably since 15 and a half or 16) just because the acne I have with pcos can get unbearable because it’s all over my body so looking good on my face makes me feel more human. Hidradenitis is one hell of a disorder and the fact it’s just one of the many symptoms from pcos makes it even worse.

I haven't watched Euphoria so I can't relate... I used retinol for the first time when I was 20 years old because I had acne scars which was caused by my teenage acne, but I didn't know what I used had retinol in it. I just saw "peeling cream" and bought it without looking at the ingredients. I'm 27 now and learned how to take care of my skin after countless of research, and my skin looks better than it was 3-4 years ago.

I used retinol as a teen and still use it. Am the same age as you no work done and yet this profile pic has no filters . Retinol works magic given it's used correctly. I agree with u .

im 17 and i was prescribed tretinoin and benzol peroxide to deal with cystic acne and nodes, and i love the results so far, i only use tretinoin at night and benzol peroxide in the morning if i have active acne but i give my skin breaks from them cuz they can be irritating and drying so i don't recommend anybody jumping into it unless they want dry painful skin for the first while, i'm so happy with the results tho

I’m 26 and only use retinol a few times a week and only on my nose because it gets super oily and I get little black heads and clogged pores all over it if I don’t. I think overall sunscreen is the most important anti-aging skin care product out there for all ages.

Im 18 and I’ve felt like retinol has helped my skin pretty decently, like since I’ve used it I’ve noticed my skin is a bit smoother in some places where I had some lines on my face, and it had helped some weird acne I’ve been having on my chin a little bit too.
