Food: we visited restaurants in Zipolite that punched way above their weight for a small beach town. Last December, our dinner at Bacco was one of our best anywhere of 2019. When we were there, there was a mirador on the headland between the main beach and Playa del Amor. It had a restaurant that served drinks at happy hour -- spectacular. Also, the swimming at Playa del Amor was fantastic!

Mazunte, Zipolite, and Puerto Angel in the state of Oaxaca are not overrun by tourists like the country's more famous beaches, so they are great places to have a more local experience while enjoying the sand and surf. Mazunte and Zipolite are known for their laid-back attitude and hippie spirit.

Stayed at Hotel Gloria in spring of1979. Gloria's was the only "hotel" on the west headland of the beach -- actually just a collection of a few large huts. On the opposite eastern headland was a small 20 room hotel. On the beach were only two small huts that sold beer and tacos --nothing else, just wild horses running up and down the beach In 1979 beer was 3 pesos or 30 cents each. Made several saves in surf of swimmers in trouble in the two days I stayed.

thanks for the vids. Recent subscriber.. Had to see this one. Visited zipolite in the early 90s.. don't remember seeing a naked person or smelling marijuana.. and.. WOW! has it changed. .. buildings and all. Used to be hammocks and nothing much else. Probably my part of the Pacific coastline - and for the feeling of vacation. But again. The Riviera Maya wasn't even a thing either back then.. I suspect you are correct about all the info on this place, and that makes me think I will NEED to visit the Malaysian and Philippino places in our recent list of top places. As that seemed to be an excellent update, from a connoisseur of the Asian options 😊

Hi Dan; love your videos; thank you so much for all of your thoughtful shares with all of us. I am currently looking at visiting Mexico for hopefully a few months, and have been most drawn to Mazunte, and Puerto Morelos, as I have almost no interest in the high tourist zones, and instead am looking more for quiet, meditation, the healing arts, etc... Anyway, It looks like it's been a year since you guys were there, but I'm curious if you remember when visiting Mazunte, how noisy it was/is there, as well as Puerto Morelos. I ask because I tend to be very sensitive to noise, and specifically things like construction, electrical equipment used for landscaping, and heavy bass frequencies from music. In any case, I would so appreciate your feedback on this whenever you have a moment. And either way, I just liked and subscribed; thanks again, and all the best to you and Qiang; you are a really cute couple.

dmrgtwaves, In either Mazunte or nearby Zipolite, there are areas where there is music for much of the day. But if you get rent a scooter and get back into less populated areas, you should be okay. I would suggest the same with Puerto Morelos. The colonia side has some quiet areas but best to investigate before booking long term. Here is how we find cheap apartments all over the world now. Blessings man 🙏❤

Well Q, you’re a world class beauty, girl!!!! I know it probably comes across as geeky, but I just love learning about other tall women enjoying doing their thing in this world. There was a time in my youth when I was embarrassed of my height, and it became important (at that time) for me to find other tall women as roll models. Now I try to be that positive example for any younger girls who feel similarly today... so it’s great to find another positive example! Must say that I did wonder whether you’ve ever done any fashion modeling (runway maybe?), but I don’t want to wander too far outside the scope of the macro-conversation... admittedly, I was wondering whether you and I may have ever crossed paths in that world. ☺️ Anyway you guys rock, keep up the amazing content!
