😨How close are you to retirement? What, if any, challenges are you anticipating? Are you excited, frightened, relieved? Even better if you are willing to share any cool hobbies you are looking forward to pursuing.

People don’t often talk about the struggle of keeping interpersonal relationships during the journey of reaching financial independence, thank you Christine for bringing that up! Definitely something to keep in mind when looking for FI.

Agree. FI Journey or simply a life journey is much more enjoyable with strong and supportive personal relationships. Thank you for commenting Marlene.

Part of the permission to spend dilemma is ensuring funds for potential LTC if self-insuring. Could be a fortune, could be nothing, you don't know.

Great point Gregory! How are your guitar lessons going? I took a few lessons once and want to get back into it one day.

The topic of transitional retirement is very interesting and one that is rarely discussed. Like myself, some people ease into retirement over a period of years through corporate downsizing and a bias against older workers. It took me 10 years to navigate from a full-time executive position to career change to part-time work to self-employment at age 60. Now 3 years later, I'm enjoying the flexibility of semi-retirement and planning the next phase (what to do with my business, how to travel more, taking up new hobbies).

Linda, indeed, but, in your case it appears you are taking very intentional steps. Congratulations on your semi-retirement and best of luck as you traverse through the next phases. I'm curious, what new hobbies do you have in mind?

Excellent interview. I'm less than a decade out from FI, which by coincidence will line up with our youngest being old enough to fly the nest. It's still a little ways out, so I'm working on a vision for what life will be like.

Eric, thank you for the comment. You will definitely have enough to think about as you approach that date. Definitely begin to incorporate elements you think you will be doing in your life at that point. I think that will have at least two benefits; first, I think it will help emotionally with the transition from work and having your your youngest flying the coop and second, I think it will put you years ahead of enjoying additional experiences and possibly learn even more things you'll want to enjoy/experiences as time passes.

Had to laugh at the comments about a teacher's steady income that kept up with their needs. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
