Judge Tang defends the CCP government against Hong Kong protestors and their fight for democracy. She thinks democracy is bad for Hong Kong. Ironic, given that she is a judge who was elected and re-elected several times in California. She says that Hong Kong protestors are funded by a CIA agency. It truly astounds me that an ELECTED judge, someone who benefits from a democratic system of government, would defend an authoritarian state against young people who are merely standing up for their right to free expression. She supports CCP authoritarianism. Further, it astounds me that she does not believe in judicial freedom against the political class. Democratic governments do not sign extradition treaties with authoritarian states because dictatorships do not have independent judiciaries. If Hong Kong had extradition with China, China could have anybody arrested at sent to the CCP for interrogation. It's really amazing that an elected judge like Ms. Tang does not support independent judiciaries. And yet she worked in just such a judiciary for many years. Wow.

I am a Chinese Canadian witnessing the horror of what Hongkong people endure with sadness, disappointment, frustration and anger toward those rioters. Judge Julie Tang's every word is echoing my sentiments toward Hongkong. Thanks to Julie and others who are continuing your tireless efforts to spread the truth about Hongkong. I have given up my trust to all Canadian mainstream media reports related to China and Hongkong. The award winning CBC nightly News even allocated their prime time to "interview" Jimmy Lai (who is now in Hongkong jail, thanks to Hongkong newly enacted NSL) speading lies and anti China narratives. Canadian mainstream media directly or indirectly caused the recent anti Asian chaos in our community all across Canada.

But KZitem also plays double standards if you make a based facts comments that are not favorable to "western" side, it will also block your comment, obviously there is no fair and objective freedom of speech ...

A pro-democracy protester in Hong Kong was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison, the first prosecution under Beijing's national security law. Now a new amendment to the city’s immigration law takes effect Sunday that China says targets illegal refugees. But as special correspondent Richard Kimber reports, critics say the law's wording is vague and could ban residents from leaving the city.

@@elainelee2491 Thank you for your response, Elaine. I think I have made my point suscicently below. All you have to do is read them regarding Judge Tang and her abhorrent support for state repression against independent courts of law, and indeed, the rule of law. Very strange views from a woman who was elected herself to the court. The controversial NSL law reduces Hong Kong's judicial autonomy and makes it easier to punish demonstrators and activists. It criminalizes "secession, subversion and collusion with foreign forces" and carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Beijing insists that the law is needed to bring stability to the city, but it violates the "one country, two systems" principle under which the former British colony was handed back to China. The one thing many Hong Kongers do agree on however, is that in the year since the law was enacted, life has fundamentally changed--for the worst. These young people in Hong Kong are not the tools of foreign powers. They have been persecuted for doing what all of us have a human right to do: Protest against our governments. I'm shocked that Judge Tang would support such measures, and that 'Pivot to Peace' has such a vile attitude toward young people, who only want freedom to think on their own.

@@HeresMyView Friend, MyObservation. In China, you get in trouble if you defy the Communist Party and its Princeling Masters. That's a fact. In the other countries, you mentioned above, you can say whatever you want and not live in fear of the authorities. Authoritarian states vs. democratic states. Judge Tang lives in the latter, but promotes oppression against democracy in China and Hong Kong. I find that very ironic. Love your use of the word "SHIT." So childish. Joshua Wong is a brave man. A hero who stands up for truth against power. FACT. As for the red aristocracy in Chiina: The CCP is at the end of the day a corrupt party. Senior CCP leadership is riddled with corrupt transactions and massive personal fortunes. Xi is no exception. Xi’s sister Qi Qiaoqiao and her husband Deng Jiagui own Beijing Central People’s Trust Real Estate Development Corporation Ltd. Their real estate business has made stunning progress on the basis of the best possible land given by the local government in order to seek Xi Jinping’s favour. In fact, Jiagui also figures in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ)’s 2014 report on offshore accounts of Chinese elites. However, for Xi, the wealth of his sister or brother-in-law isn’t much of a problem. Xi keeps his nuclear family untainted Top CCP leadership was often caught in an embarrassing situation due to revelations about the personal weather of the leaders and the prosperity of their next of kin. However, Xi has been quite discreet in this matter. Just like his predecessor Hu Jintao, Xi has also ensured his immediate family remains financially untainted. Most of the wealth in Xi Jinping’s family is therefore concentrated in the hands of his sisters, niece and brother-in-law. This allows Xi to play frugal while his extended family amassed hordes of wealth. How rich is Xi’s extended family? Well, let’s just say- very rich. According to a 2012 report, Xi’s siblings hold a combined wealth of over $US1 billion.

I used to live in HK for over 30 yrs. I still have alot of relatives there. I'm an overseas Chinese grew up in a democratic country. But even with democracy, doesn't guarantee peace and order or stability in a country. I grew up seeing classmates got kidnap. I myself as a kid experience bombing, luckily I wasn't that close and not affected. I seen people dead in the street. So when I moved to HK I feel more free. I can go out at nite and no need to be scared. What happen in 2019 really saddens me, but at the same time it make me more in touch with my Chinese side. Even with 30yrs of propaganda in HK to look down at Chinese mainlanders, it made me realize how easy it is to instill prejudice in a person. It also show how in history people being righteous but at the same time could be capable with so much evil if they believe they are right. I still have friendsin HK until now still believe in US narrative even with the one eye blind girl turns out to be false news, they still believe in US. And she prefer not to talk to me anymore. America has a great satellite system and GPS and yet they cannot produce one single photo of the concentration camp whilst ASPI produce a few photo of Xinjiang of the school and factories and depict them as concentration camp. Over the decades most people of other countries including China look up to America as the Dream Land but now most of us have only dismay and shame of the attitude shown by their bullying and coercive attitude. We are told here to believe that a riot in Hong Kong could have the effect of 'destabalising China'. In other words the effect of a riot in Hong Kong would be felt in the rest of China with dangerous consequences. As anyone can understand the riot would not even be heard about on the mainland if the authorities did not want it as the media is very tightly controlled so this explanation is patent nonsense. In the case of the extradition .What the Hong Kongers would have suspected was that an extradition law was being smuggled into the legislation under the guise of an unanswerable case of murder. It turns out that their suspicions were entirely correct. What this judge disgracefully fails to point out is that an extradition law can only apply when the alleged criminal offence is recognised in the host legislature in this case Hong Kong. If it is not then there are no grounds for extradition. If the rioters crimes were an offence in Hong Kong then why could they not be tried and sentenced in Hong Kong for breaking the law... ? The answer is obvious - they would not have been convicted as it was not an offence so they had to be extradited to stand trial under different laws and different judges in clear violation of the laws applying to extradition by the United Nations..
