Good morning! Thank you for this awesome little tour of the commodities in San Felipe! I have been there a few times while on Baja trips for the Baja 1000. I wish I had more time then to explore more. The little drive thru quick stop was awesome! On our recent trip to Mazatlan, we took enough cloths so as to not need to do laundry. Next time….5 shirts and 5 shorts and just use a laundry place like you did! The supermarket looked fabulous! It appeared that aside from a few Gucci food products, one can get whatever they need. Or….maybe I should term it that one should tailor their needs to what is available and be happy. We have an awesome boondocking travel trailer, an outdoors rv from up in your former spot in Oregon. And, we put a decent solar set up in it this last winter ( we live in CO and prefer to just to just go to the woods or desert for our camping vice the mini cities of the campgrounds). One of my deals with my wife is that I would sell that setup when we start part timing in Mexico. It really looks like I should milk the deal for at least an extra year and make our first 6 months a mega camping trip in Baja! Safe travels!

The Calimax in San Felipe is definitely well stocked for a small town in Mexico. It has many more US comfort items than the grocery store in Loreto. But we have found Mexican alternatives and modified the what we eat to what is readily available.

@@dooglassandesperanzaenjoyed the video 👍👌🙏- concise, pertinent information, informative, interesting,,,if you have time for a few regional questions? We are coming to the area with a small 19’ class c rv in mid January for about a month after some dental work in Los Algodones. 1- I enjoy secondary roads versus freeways, so is it a good idea to take Mx 2 to Mx 3 to Mx4 to Mx 5 to San filipe versus going to Mexicali and taking Mx 5 down? (Ie rough roads, or some other reason?) 2- recommendations for Rv campgrounds? Would like to be on or close to beach near town if possible, reasonable $ places. 3- restaurants (we like places where locals eat) - sea food, on the beach, good safe food, breakfast, lunch etc - reasonable $ 4-is there a tourist bureau or chamber of commerce? To find out places to see and things to do? Mike and Darcia- from upper Michigan, been to Mexico many times, but never to Baja Appreciate your video and time🙏

Hi Doug and Esperanza, I got super excited with the San Felipe video you put up. You were right there in my neighborhood , we’ll where we have our home in San Felipe. Our home is just across the laundry or across from the tunnel store lol.

Very cool! We went back and forth between San Felipe and Loreto before deciding on Loreto. They are both great places.

Do they have a coin laundry where you wash your clothes yourself?

Yes it can be much less expensive, especially if you live and eat like the locals.

Can you get things fixed speedily and efficiently, like if the AC stops working?
@dooglassandesperanza

If you are talking about mini splits at home then usually you can get someone out in a few hours and the cost will probably be $30-$50. Ther are very few people to work on RVs down here so it a challenge if you can't do it yourself

Are there organic fruits & vegetables available ?
@dooglassandesperanza
Жыл бұрын
I have not seen Organic labeled produce in smaller towns like San Felipe, but I have seen it in places like Ensenada, La Paz, Cabo. Here in Loreto much of our produce comes from local farms, and people claim that it is organic. A lot of times the local produce isn't as pretty as produce in the US and I have been told that is because they don't use GMO seeds or most of the pesticides and herbicides used in the US. I have not researched it myself so I don't know for sure.

What was the total cost for the day?
@dooglassandesperanza
2 жыл бұрын
This wasn't all in one day. We get water about once every two weeks so water is about $3 a week. We do laundry once a week so laundry is about $9 a week. We eat out 3-4 times a week at around $20 a meal. The rest of the days probably average to $10 a day for food. So food is probably around $100 a week. Hope this answers your question.

Domestic Mexican products tend to be around 70% to 50% of similar products in the US. US or Canadian imported goods are usually the same price or slightly more expensive. You don't see a lot of Chinese goods here. When you do see Asian goods like Samsung or LG, they are actually manufactured domestically in Mexico, not in Korea.
