Some lenses extend when they're focused, and in some cases these lenses can be damaged if the extending lens barrel is forced back into the lens body. To address this Canon's cameras include a feature that retracts these lenses (by focusing them to infinity) when the camera is powered off.
Unfortunately, on the EOS R5, when this function is enabled, there's a bug that causes it to run for all lenses. As a result, the camera won't just retract extending lenses, but will refocus all lenses when the camera is switched off.
To work around this bug, and retain your focus position between power cycles, you can turn off the "Retract lens on power off" custom function. Disabling it stops the camera from refocusing lenses when you flip the power switch, but it also means you'll need to remember to manually retract (focus to infinity) any lenses that extend when focusing.
