proper way is to tighten barrel then use an alignment rod, if it dosen't align then one must look at the receiver and fsb. If its the fsb then you need to remove and use oversize taper pins. SOTAR has a bunch of videos on this. Of course it could be so far out its ruined. If its the upper is going to have gas key alignment issues and other problems.

Thanks! I actually spoke to the gunsmith of SOTAR about it. I think if the Receiver and fsb were ok, or if I can’t take it apart, he thought I did the next best thing but to go through some other checks. A lot of the conversation was about using proper M193 to ensure it’s properly functioning since it was not cycling well or 100% when I put it together. We talked about fault isolating the magazines, etc. I’m not done checking it. I have the M193 but have not gone back through all the steps.

If there were truly no errors on the technicians' part, then it might just be the reality of a mass production item. Learned recently that the slight misalignment of _free floating_ guards is common with AR-15's along with canted (front) flip up sights. For this reason, I gave up on BUIS and rely on an RMR atop an ACOG, which also lacks uniform machining! Function over form and all that, but still disappointing

This is a one off custom. Regarding tolerances, I couldn’t find anyone that knew of an ‘acceptable’ amount of cant in an AR barrel. My 6.8 SPC rifle, featured in a series of videos has a free float handguard. I often wonder if I have it on ‘perfect’. But the goal there is to put an optic on it so other sights would be back ups. I need to rebuild the gas block and share the results.
