I bought the bluetooth version of this controller back in February, just before going abroad for vacation (which was an interesting experience in and of itself, but that's another story). It worked great-no noticeable lag, no sticky buttons, and the face buttons and d-pad felt pretty much like I remembered them from my Genesis days (I never had a Saturn). It worked great for just over two weeks, when the d-pad broke-the right direction stopped working. I was fairly certain the actuator had snapped, but I didn't want to open it up yet in case it voided any kind of warranty. After trying and failing to contact RetroBit's customer support a few times over the course of the next couple of weeks, I finally managed to get a response on the last e-mail I intended to send them. They were, to their credit, very accommodating-they understood that it would be difficult to send the defective unit back in since I was abroad, and they just sent me a replacement unit as well as two replacement actuators. Still actually abroad due to the whole situation, so I haven't been able to test the replacement unit, but my father mailed me the actuators since they weigh like a fiftieth of an ounce or something. I received those around the beginning of June (roughly two months ago), and installed one in my original unit. After opening up the controller, sure enough, the original actuator had a crack right through the right direction. Comparing it with the replacement actuators, they look pretty nearly identical, though the replacements are translucent while the original is black. The only other significant difference to my (inexpert) eyes is that the original is very stiff, while the replacements have a little bit of give. This is the first time I've ever opened up a gamepad, so I don't really know what it should be like. I've used the unit moderately to moderately heavily since then (mostly in scrolling shooters, platformers, and RPGs, though my initial testing was in Skullgirls), and so far it's held up. Roughly three months passed between the time that the actuator broke and when I was finally able to replace it, but the d-pad does seem to control very slightly differently than it did originally-it seems slightly harder to register diagonals than it used to. That said, a three month gap can easily play tricks on your memory, so it's hard to say for sure. Either way, it still works great and feels great, and I'm hoping it continues to going forward. I'll have to test the replacement gamepad thoroughly when I get home, as well. That said, I still have some beef. The d-pad actuator issue goes all the way back to their initial wired controller shipments; it's the most widely reported issue with their Saturn pads I've seen, and the excuse I keep seeing (including the one I got from customer support) is a bad batch of controllers in their initial production cycle. Given that the wireless variants didn't even show up till about a year after the wired versions, I don't think that really holds water anymore. I'm not sure what they've been doing with these actuators, but I really hope the problem doesn't continue to persist in new controllers.

I love Sega Lord X's content. Maybe he has been lucky but I and many others haven't. I have a friend that bought this before me and he has no problems with the C button so perhaps it's a certain bad manufacturing run or something. I made my C button useable by shaving a small amount off the plastic. An important feature of this controller is the dpad macros that allow dpad input to register as an analog stick in game regardless of system. This has allowed me to use the wired version as my go to controller for almost everything I play that doesn't require dual analog stick input. I think it's a really excellent pad! I'm perfectly fine with using the original Saturn pad. I recently bought a controller extension cable as I don't mind a single cord running across the floor. However, if there is one reason I would buy the retrobit wireless controllers, it would be for the 6 port xontroller hub for playing Saturn Bomberman with my friends. Having 6+ cords running all around the room is a mess, not to mention that some of them won't even be long enough to reach the players. I was waiting for you to mention if they are compatible with the controller hub, as they're kind of necessary when playing a multiplayer game such as Saturn Bomberman without the mess. But nonetheless awesome video.

I agree with the majority of this review. I also saw a lot of retrobit's older stuff as having fun designs but feeling very cheap. These Saturn pads and especially their Tribute 64 are a step up. The Saturn pad isn't perfect for sure. The mold around the buttons could be tighter so the buttons didn't have extra space to rattle, and the floating dpad sticks up a bit higher than the original. But I actually like the shoulder buttons better on the retrobit...I've never liked the microswitch style on the original as it never felt good for games that heavily use a shoulder like people playing X4 with a shoulder-mapped dash. Overall, they captured the feel of the original pretty well for a replica. It's unfortunate their QC on the first batch was poor on the dpad. I think it left a bad impression that is taking a while to shake.

Had mine for almost a year now, and I have some additions to bring up here. The LED indicating power, charging, and whether it's in DirectInput or XInput mode just sort of stopped working a while back. The Dpad is super close to the original but I have noticed it's just a tiny bit off- special moves I can pull off in Castlevania Dracula X on my official US 90's pad are really unreliable on this Dpad. And the final thing is that if you've got a 3D control pad plugged in to control port 2 and the wireless receiver in port 1, the wireless controller is really finnicky to connect. Might just be my console or use of Pseudo Saturn tho

Is there any hope of a sega Saturn mini being in the pipeline? I missed the chance during its original lifecycle, and can’t afford the outrageous prices on eBay or similar sites for actual hardware. I’m not very computer literate, so emulation isn’t really an option for me either. My only hope is a mini, unless there’s another option I’m not aware of

I don't think Sega has an ounce of interest in a Saturn Mini.

Does anyone know if these work on the Xbox Series S/X and PS5. Looking at buying one for my Series X for 2D indie games. Thanks.
