Set the size of the light source to 0, so the edges of the shadows are pin-sharp. Actually, this might look better in Cycles rather than Eevee.

Thanks. I love these type of old CGI art since Im scared as shit of them, probably because of all the old scary games my dad used to play with these crappy graphics. So I want to make some cool stuff with it. Thanks for the tutorial.

still can't see the texture when I go back to layout... can you also do more tutorials for typical art like you can do in 3D Studio Max? ♥

Anybody else seen the sign “ABSOLUTELY NO CHROME SPHERES OVER CHECKERBOARDS PERMITTED IN THIS ROOM”? You can get T-shirts.

You literally just gave an object a metallic shader in a dark environment.

Any idea how to make the shading look more flat and 80s?
@DazeWare

If you want to make it look less reflective/metallic and more plastic looking, try changing the material settings, maybe mess around with its roughness. Something that also significantly changes the look is how you position your lightsource.

@@DazeWare The emissions help make it look a bit better without making iy too plasticy. I forgot to specify i was talking about shadows, but cycles appears to do shading better.

Make all the materials emissive, and get rid of separate light sources. Voilà - no gradations or shadows.

This doesn't look even remotely "Retro CGI".

The look of retro CGI can vary depending on what look you're going for. If there is a specific thing you want to create, I can probably make a video on how to achieve the look, could you give me a reference to what you were thinking?

@hahathatisfunnybro do you mean the fmv cutscenes that have higher quality animation or the cutscenes using the in game graphics?

@@DazeWare they have this like otherworldly quality to them.. a combination of the lighting and the textures and the smoothness they give this feeling of uncanny and dread that makes you feel like your looking at an alternate reality from another dimension or something scary like that. The cutscene from silent hill 2 with eddy when he says “killin a person aint no big deal, just put the gun to their head, pow” is a really good example of what im talking about. Watching it feels like you’ve uncovered a lost piece of media from a distant past, that was never meant to see the light of day. The perspectives make reality feel so weird its like (say it was live footage hypothetically) the camera they used couldn’t perceive depth properly and the 3d space looks weirdly wonky as a result (in a good way tho.. its such a good thing. This is the feeling i want to achieve) (its ok if thats too much to ask, i understand all this shit is hard and time consuming as fuck) Edit: (replying to my last sentence above here where i said its ok if this is too much too ask) you dont have to go out if your way to make a video about it unless tou want to, even just a few suggestions of what i could try would be greatly appreciated.
