I've split this video in 2 parts, for reasons which will become clear. Part 2 should be along as soon as some parts arrive from China 🙄 ... 👍

@@StezStixFix In fairness even with more electronics experience, with ICs you'd need to know the chip ID to lookup the logic gates used and pin layout. That's where things get a bit 🤯, Steve. 😜 I've got faith that you'll get there mate, using second units, multimeters, electronic venders, a soldering iron and the force.

5 volt devices should not come with barrel jack adapters, because there is probably a 12 volt adapter lurking nearby with the same sized connector... I'm guessing the blown components are voltage regulators for the ARM and RAM and such. If the pins are shorted, forget about it, the APU took 12V and all components are toast. If the VRMs are opened circuit, they may have blown like a fuse and saved the main chips. But most likely this board is not fixable.
@StezStixFix

Totally agree Randy! That is almost certainly what happened to this one, and with little to no over-voltage protection it was always going to end badly! 😳

Always interesting to see blown parts like that and wonder what the circumstances were that led to it! Like did the person playing it know they might have been using the wrong adapter or was it a complete surprise? Did they smell burning components? We’ll never know... Looking forward to seeing part 2!

Thanks Rachel! Yeah, I imagine they just plugged in an adapter from an android box or something else close by in error, and then they got a burning smell and maybe even a couple of pops! And then immediately sold it on eBay! 😁

After watching the video they look like voltage regulators for the HDMI circuit, the chips. If you google the data sheet for the chips you can get the rating of the regulator and replace them.

@@StezStixFix I meant look at the data sheet for the working voltage of each chip the regulator goes to, because they are all blown I agree that someone probably used a 9 or 12 power lead. If it runs on 5 volts then they are probably 3.3 volt regulators for the skylinx chip and the Xilinx chips, they normally run at 3.3 volts. I’m not sure what the voltage at the HDMI port should be unless the third one was for the mini usb power. If that is true it should be 5 volts, but it it is 5 volts and it runs on 5 volts why does it need a regulator. It is going to be interesting to see what happens going forward.

Your multimeter & a big ass resistor will do for an easy, simple test. Negative of your meter to the neg of the power supply, then positive of the power supply to one side or the resistor. With your meter in 10/20 AMP mode & your positive lead plugged into the amp socket on your meter put the probe on the other end of the resistor. Hey presto you will see a amps reading. Be careful though the resistor will get Hot! 👍
