Love your videos having worked in the motor trade for many years before moving to Lanzarote . I have experience in importing and matriculating vehicles in to Spain and believe me it’s a minefield. The ITV stations will only except factory none modified vehicles in Spain any modifications from standard have to be returned to factory spec . I would think the Ibiza is much the same so please check as this might be a massive problem for the owner . Also there is one of those original Toyotas on Lanzarote it’s a first class example and was sold recently for some €30,000 I often see it on my travels here .keep up the good work it’s nice to see things done properly.

This is a lovely original example of an 80's BJ LandCruiser, while I enjoy seeing Retropower's mods to some of the other vehicles they do, many are pretty dilapidated when they get them and leave as "diamonds". This one, well, I wonder if it's owner realises how the mods will devalue the vehicle, this Toyota is not the sort of vehicle to do this to, one in this condition deserves to be preserved as built. But if some well heeled "Phillistine" wants to blow some dough, why not start with a poor example of the 'Cruiser, the only way then is up...

On the chevette fluid reservoir you should add a little 1/3 height wall between each circuit. So that if one fluid circuit leaks it can't drain all the fluid from the other two circuits.
@retropowercars

We decided it was uneccessary as the fluid in the feed pipes stops the cylinders running dry and there is a level sensor (that's what the hole at the front is for) which will display an unmissable warning on the digital dash. The baffles would get in the way of the level sensor.

Anything above 2 litres petrol NA kills that drive train within a year. It works "fine" with NA diesel, but petrol packs more punch in higher revs, so all the axles and gear boxes turn into dust, and not even a fresh set will resolve that problem. The tolerances and materials aren't designed to run on gasolene rev ranges and torque numbers. To make it work with petrol engine, Camry would be the best donor. Less weight to deal with, and smooth torque curve that saves the under carriage.
@Jonathan_Doe_

Having the engine pretty far forwards isn’t a bad thing on an off roader, it actually helps with not flipping backwards on steep climbs, and as you said, trying to make it sporty would be silly anyway, so centre of mass ain’t a huge concern.

As samari 240 said good luck with getting an ITV ( spanish MOT ) after those mods anything on a spanish registered car has to have a homolgation certification to allow any modification to pass, even the wheel size has to be as described in the logbook and if a towbar or any other accessory is fitted it has certification papers provided and then that is added to the logbook .

I'd go for a late 3uz-fe with the 6 speed auto and swap on the 100 series Landcruiser transfer case and then run the factory ECU, much more reliable and bullet proof for a car getting shipped O/S, you could use the Elate manifold and just mount the factory DBW throttle body vertical in the middle, maf on top then your classic air cleaner...

Bronco is very similar in width. And put those tyres on a 7" wide rim. Here in Oz those came with 6 cyl petrol or diesel. The petrol was a blue flame Chev clone. The only 4s we got were called a Bundera and have the resale of a Landrover!! IF you want auto use the 4500 petrol and auto from a later 80 or early 100. Tough as and very reliable. My 100 had 420000km on it when I sold it and ran 100%. And had never been touched. Using the 80/ 100 bits gives you what you need. Either that or what has happened world wide. Put a 350 Chev in it. You can buy all the kits to bolt them in. But I feel an auto conversion would be harder. The V8 Toymota comes from a Landcruiser, that version is a far better engine for a 4wd. Toymota sold the later narrow front troopies in the US with a V8 petrol Find a wrecked later Cruiser 80/100 for all the parts you need. Inc diffs and brakes I am 6'1 and have no issues driving those things except for my knee against the door trim. Those came with a/c from the factory which worked fine.

I would be interested in more of your views on the 4 barrel throttle body type fuel injection systems. I have a 289 Mustang and was thinking of fitting the Holley sniper system until I read the reviews in detail and it put me right off with the issues seen by a number of people. The Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 seems better but at a much increased price over the Holley system. In the end I went for the Edelbrock AVS2 carb which has very good reviews and works really well. Also a fraction of the price of fuel injection.
@retropowercars
3 жыл бұрын
It was the Edelbrock we were looking at but we'll only really be using the throttle body. We'll run our own management and can put injectors in manifold to ensure even distribution of fuel so its essentially just a way of having a nice set of throttle butterflies and idle control bypass in a neat package
