I don't know if you will see this but I just want to say I know you think it was a coincidence, but I believe the people who are laid to rest were truly happy you returned with a new visitor after so many years alone, and I want to say I respect you for honoring them with a bow and thank you for the amazing videos of the beauty of the lost and forgotten. I hope one day I can live in Japan so I can experience this beauty first hand.

Absolutely amazing! Something really mesmerizing about old abandoned places. It creates so many images, and stories, in your mind; who lived there? how was their daily life? The items left behind and sealed in their house. It is really interesting. You treated the place with respect. Best regards from Denmark!

Kurt, you inspired me to head out today. I was fortunate to watch the pelicans along the river. One actually caught a fish while I watched. Poor fish, I could see it moving inside the pelican. It was then I decided to record which is new for me. I love your videos of japan and hope if nothing else, you continue to explore. Thank you for all you've shared, I feel like I've been along for the journey into sacred spaces.

Adventure is out there! Seriously though, loved this video. Some really great shots (opening with you and Emi putting on your gear, and especially you two eating lunch together), and even though she probably looked at this as a punishment, I guarantee when Emily grows older she's going to look back on moments like these as something really special. Who knows, maybe in 20 years she'll end up watching this video and reading this comment! Hi future Emi!

"Firewood" is /maki/. My father-in-law was very knowledgeable about the various mushrooms that grow in the wilds of central Japan. I was lucky to have a large expanse of woods right outside my back door as a kid, exploring was my favorite thing! Now all the meadows and woodlands are being developed into shopping centers or housing developments. :( I would rather see them become abandoned or left alone like in Japan, so that all generations can continue to play and explore in the natural world. Thats why I love your videos, it's good to know that others feel the need to explore what you've aptly named the Path Of Wildness.

haha, Emily's enthusiasm is wonderful. I was wondering- when you hike you often get these nasty leeches or hornets, but what about Japanese ticks? I always end up with several ticks on my legs when I walk in the woods- they are quite horrible, but I imagine Japanese ones would be 10 times more so:)

/abu/ means "horsefly". For a while, as I was increasing my fluency in Japanese, I really got into learning the names of plants and animals. /tanbo/ = rice paddy, /tonbo/ = dragonfly, /amenboo/ or /amenbo/ = waterbug, tadpoles are called /otamajakushi/. Here's another bug you'll likely never come across now that Japanese rice farming relies so heavily on chemical insecticides, the /nina/, a snail that used to be common in rice paddies.
