Kurt, I just want to wish you luck on whatever you decide to do. I want you to know I suffer from terrible anxiety, and your videos have been so relaxing to me. You're interesting, knowledgable, and you have a sense of humor. I have looked forward to so many of these, and will be sad to see you go if you choose to, but like most of your fans, I want you to do what makes you happiest. :)

The oldest sign says 明治貳拾 which is Meiji 20 or 1888 . . . then some donors; the big donor was 壹円圓五拾銭 -- 1 yen 50 sen That was when the yen was worth a lot -- google says $18, and I assume adjusted for inflation ¥1.50 in 1888 would be $675 in today's money. The top board has the name of the 神社 jinja shrine (can't read it) Three big donors gave 壹拾万円 or 一十万円, ¥10万 I guess in Showa 49 (the last board), 1974. The yen has deflated by 50% since then, so that's $2000 or so in today's money (even though the yen is a lot stronger now, I'm not adjusting for that since Japanese prices haven't adjusted much since 1974). So I guess that nice outer roof was added in 1974. Really awesome video, but those leeches are a real deal-killer! I didn't see a single leech in 8 years in Tokyo!

I just started watching this video but let me leave my comment first. Japan will miss you Kurt. Thank you for all the remarkable video work about this island in far east. :-) This is going to be a rich cultural heritage for a country of over 120 million population. Seeing you leaving is like Japan has to cut off a part of body but we Japanese have to take the pain I think, and we are happy to see you having a new start in the US, your home. I hope to see you on YT there. :-) カート、ありがとう。

What makes hiking fun is when you find a seemingly abandoned structure in the forest, making the adventure much more worth it other than finding a rare animal/plant somewhere, or a cigarette lighter that you think was 200 years old. Anyhow it's like the mountainous province in the Philippines, but with less people, which is a good thing as it makes the adventure feel more awesome.

Do you have a boom microphone with a windsock on your camera? Because there was no wind sound while you had the camera out the window driving. I enjoy the hikes with you. Is there a repellant for the leaches? You should have your own reality show: “Japan out of the cities.” Those leaches would be enough to keep me out of the wilds.

I would really miss your videos if you stopped. I only discovered them about, hmm, 8 months ago but they have quickly become the videos I most look forward to seeing in my feed, especially these long ones. I hope that no matter what you leave the videos online, they are great and I have really enjoyed working my way through the new videos while also watching the early ones as well. Videos like the "Japanese mountain village encounter" make my day and I like to go back to them on occasion.

I believe in not limiting myself to one thing e.i. one career. If you teach yourself an array of skills, but don't focus on one enough to be able to make money, however, let's just say it's best to do if you actually have money xD Then again, I suppose everything is a tad bit easier with money... kind of. The transition into one thing from another can often take time, so slowly forming into something else can be beneficial - as you will also learn whether you enjoy the new thing or not.
