No one likes to voluntarily take a lot of time off of work, even if it’s to recover from an injury. You might not have sick time to cover the absences. You might get behind on some big assignments. You might be bored at home. It’s important to know, though, when it’s safe to return to work after an injury or surgery, and when you can realistically perform your normal duties.

Much of what determines return to work after an injury or surgery is the specific nature of what you do. A physically demanding job will be tougher for early return to work than a desk job. Also, the ability to drive yourself to work might play a role.
In this video, I talk about some of the considerations regarding work in the first few days after you suffer an injury or undergo surgery.
