Yep, it is lacking. That's why people don't use it that much for raids.There are still squads forming, but most of them are formed in discords and guilds. For fractals, open world, strikes (normal modes) etc. the LFG is still the main way to form a party/squad.

@@EmanuelRotter See, I think if it was all self-explanatory, the community would not be half as nice and willing to help newbies as it is. If you could get by without as much as a "hi" (looking again at WoW style dungeon and raid finder), people aren't going to be very friendly on a daily basis. If you want to start fractals, strikes, or even raids, best tip I can give you is go find a guild who does that content and is open to training up new people. Not only are you going to learn all that you need, you're also going to meet people who aren't just randoms to you to do the content with, and who knows, you might even gain new friends.

I left gw2 many years ago and thinking of returning, but what has always put me off is that I just cannot understand how pve works. In other mmo’s I know what a tank, healer and dps are supposed to do. In GW I just have no idea what kind of build I should go for, how group composition works and what the role is of each person in the party. I remember joining fractals and having no clue, it just felt everyone was spamming skills like maniacs without any strategy. Can anyone help here? Any resources I could use to understand this better?
@Timmcd

It varies between types of PvE content, but in general you can consider the major archetypes something along the lines of "Support & DPS", with varying levels of hybrid between. Rather than healing/tanking, a lot of content is designed around "boon uptime". There are quite a few different boons that stack up to a max - Stability (prevents players from being CC'd) needs to be applied with the right number of stacks at the right time in a fight to avoid wipes or huge DPS losses, Quickness stacks up to DRASTICALLY reduce cooldowns for teammates, Regen, Might, Fury, etc etc. You'll often find builds that are pretty focused on self-sufficient damage dealing (Power or Condition Damage Vindicator, as an example). You'll also see builds like "Quickness Herald" that aim to do as much self-sufficient DPS as they can, while sacrificing some to contribute to the Quickness uptime for the team. Then you'll find stuff that is more geared towards purely dishing out multiple boons as much as possible for the whole team. Try checking out a build site to get an idea of what LATE game PvE can look like, or even builds for PvP. Note there are a LOT of options, and playing "the most optimal" builds is a matter of percentage points and not necessary for 95% of PvE content. Go to the website "snowcrows"!
@Ilikebeatzzz

In a very simple way, roles are like this: Either healer/alacrity or healer/quickness provider for each sub-group ( group of 5 ) then you want some DPS/alacrity or DPS/quickness to fill the hole. and rest is pretty much DPS. There is more, but alacrity and quickness are the cruicial ones. Some fights in Raids or Strikes have some special roles, like kitting or Tank/healer. Tanking is also done differenty depending on the encounter. Some dont need a tank. some the healer is the best tank. Some tank by proximity. If you want to learn more about it I recommend looking up some guides on YT. There is more than enough of them. Some topics are even covered multiple times.

In a sense the comments below nailed it the head. There are specifically dps and support. In pve content the most important buffs that can be offered are alacrity and quickness. This video is the complete opposite to the current community opinion. The end game is a mess. The end game consists of Dungeons, Fractals which are dungeons, Dragon Response Missions which are dungeons, Strike Missions which are dungeons and raids. The issue is that these end game play style consist of legacy features - since dungeons are no longer being supported, fractals are no longer being developed, DRM aren't being developed anymore as well, Strike missions are the current "dungeon" game mode - until these gets dropped as well So once you hit the end game you're basically spit between so many things and each them is in the danger of being left behind and not receiving ongoing support. So its a mess, the end game is a mess and it has been a year since they released any end game content. This video is a nice summary but has nothing to do with the state of the endgame in 2023 for returning players

only problem I see with Raiding is the gatekeeping. I get wanting people to know the mechanics, but most i find are demanding specific builds, dps thresholds, etc,etc. it makes it rather hard to get into the raid, and rather irksome when you have to have a specidic build that someone else deems right for it.
@YouTubeChillZone

If you don't meet the requirements, you won't be able to complete the raid it's simple. You can train your skills and increase DPS you don't need much time to do it but you have to want it About two weeks ago after fractals some ele asked me about the build because I was doing 30k+ DPS after all I helped him with his rotation and after 5 minutes he increased his DPS from 10 to 20k I'm writing this as an example that it can be done
@Ilikebeatzzz

"gatekeeping" If you have some niche build, nobody cares as long as you do your job. (providing alac/quick, dps etc. ) It also helps if you show that you know what you are doing. If you join a group and say that you will do cannons on Sabatha. Nobody will question you. But if you just stand there and say nothing. That's when people start to question your competence/build. Show them that you are there to kill the boss. Works like a charm for me.

I've been playing GW2 since it's first beta and I have a character that is a day older than the game's launch day. I have never entered a raid, and the majority of the player base is the same. probably 10% of players have and less than that do them consistently. the game should have been built around raids to begin with. GW2 is mainly suffering from Anet not choosing a better business/game model from day 1 and the publisher NCSoft basically not doing anything to support the game, ever.

There are less Raid players than there are pvp players. The majority of players don't even consider Raids to be part of the PvE experience. Strikes are only tolerable because you go right to the fights and they can end quickly. There is a reason why players form groups called "Easy 3" when strikes came out. They didn't want to do Boneskinner or Whisper of Jormag for a reason. GW2 players don't want bone crushing difficulty. They barely want ten man instanced content as it is.

If you are new and leveling your first character, I suggest you do NOT use it yet. I'd say level a character to max, understand the game a bit then make a more informed decision!

im gonna be honest bro, using the boost really screwed me. i got introduced to a lot of mechanics and i got overwhelmed and dropped the game 3 years ago for about 5 months, when i came back and created another character i enjoyed it more than boosting to 80 because slowly but surely i understand which currency is used for or what does this button do etc etc. so play the game until u understand it enough to make another alt to boost

Level up your first character to see how the specialization system works. After you get used to how builds are made, it is fine to level boost newer characters with the 80 boost or tomes of knowledge. All classes are boring and don't feel good until you have access to all three trait lines and a full skill bar.

"Raids was considered at the time the greatest addition to their end game." Which was only ever attempted once by 10% of the player base. More people touched and stuck with Fractals, specifically five man content. Raids aren't considered successful which is why Strike Missions replaced them. However, since it is still ten man content, players don't want to play it. GW2 has a player base that prefers map metas that can be jumped in quickly or content that can be tackled by a few players. We'll see what becomes of Strike Missions.

It's all about time if I only have an hour a day to play then I won't waste that time collecting 9 people for raids I will do LFG and spend 5 minutes looking for a team to do all fractals t4. The situation would be different if raids had auto matchmaking or the public version. Even on dedicated discord, the time to create a team is 30 minutes and then there is still time to finish a given wing another ~ 30 minutes

There are MMOs which has a good Raid experience and if a player wants to Raid they better play those other MMOs. In GW2 raids and lfg horrible too much time consumed especially for me as a solo player and it is like a job if ever I join discord and training groups.

@@Dark_Wizard_of_Mu Training groups are a nightmare but once you get past the learning period you only need to play on Monday to do all the raids under 4 hours once you know the boss mechanics. Of course, you don't have to play only on Monday reset, it's just the most convenient for most of us

@@KZitemChillZone The LFG definitely needs an overhaul that includes match making. Fractals is where it's at right now and would benefit more from this.

@@elocfreidon That might help, but in 2015, not now when the raid population is close to zero. I think the only thing that could reverse this state of affairs is the announcement of a new wing and a completely new LFG system with the option of auto join or just public map.

You don't have to like it the graphics are from 2012, it's normal that you won't find miracles in this area we play it because there is no rat race gear treadmill and gamplay is the best on the market that's all that matters

@@elocfreidon The graphics could use an update but they certainly aren't bad the art style still pops to the point is the gameplay and the actual fun this MMO gives at a place of your own choosing vs the rest of the greedy nonsense out there. Now gw2 certainly has it's flaws because of greed go but the other companies are far worse when you actually weigh the pros and cons the game is totally worth it until something truly better comes along.

Why are you searching videos about the game then? Sounds like you're just commenting to try and start an argument that you'd lose if you actually engaged in.
