It's not a snorkel at all and not meant to keep water out. It's a desert air intake meant to reduce the amount of dust coming in.
@dirtymuddyweekends

Thank you for the clarification! It's essential to note that not all raised air intakes, often referred to as snorkels, are designed solely for water fording purposes. Some, like desert air intakes, are indeed intended to reduce the amount of dust and debris drawn into the engine, particularly in off-road and dusty environments. These systems can help maintain engine performance and longevity by providing cleaner air to the engine. Thanks for highlighting this distinction!

Great video, Ruben. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, owner of Ineos and the man who started the Grenadier, in the English pub called the Grenadier, was taken to court by Land Rover for intellectual property (IP) infringement (Copying the shape...somewhat of the Defender). Sir Jim won the court case simply because Land Rover never registered any IP, and Ineos were allowed to keep their design.

Thanks for the insight! It's fascinating to hear about the legal battle between Ineos and Land Rover over the design of the Grenadier. Intellectual property issues can be complex, and it's interesting that the outcome was influenced by Land Rover's failure to register their IP. It just goes to show the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the automotive industry. It seems like Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos came out on top in this particular case. Reuben , very good choice (Trialmaster). The wading depth is 800mm ; measure the height and see where that lies in relation to the underseat electrics (which are not in a sealed plastic tub). Also note the max wading duration is 20 minutes and max wading speed 5km/hr. It's in the owner's manual. Also if you join the international Grenadier Forum you will find all your answers. btw the Beef Wellington at the Grenadier pub in London was the best one I've ever had. A long way from Tassy , but worth the effort visiting the birthplace of the idea (Jim owns the pub now ; it is his watering hole down the road from Ineos' London HQ) P.S. the factory sliders support 2000kg from below (can jack entire side off these) , steps rated 300kg , above load only

@hedydd2

Considering their choice of archaic front axle design they had no choice other than to equip it with a recirculating ball steering box like a 1960’s farm tractor. Modern electric rack and pinion steering on independent front suspension vehicles have very sporty on road steering, not too many turns lock to lock, moderate self centring and almost zero kick back or shimmy to the steering wheel even on the most potholed hard surfaces. You can argue about whether the front axle type is superior of not but there is no argument whatsoever about the electric power assisted steering systems being far superior and indeed less wear prone and the independent suspension not prone to death wobbles at speed on rough stuff curves. It will be interesting to see whether Grenadier suffers from uneven tyre wear, because Cararro axles on tractors [basically the same design] are often guilty of having some geometrical problems that cause this.
@davespanksalot8413
10 ай бұрын
@@hedydd2 I think the choice of beam axle and steering box is a compromise for improved off road ability. And I think a solid axle is more robust when hitting solid objects, for example, like tree stumps and rocks in long grass and the like. It happens to me regularly enough on our property to be worthy of consideration. Plus there are plenty of rack and pinion IFS SUVs on the market already, the majority even. But yourself a Hilux or a new Discofender if you don’t want the Grenadier setup.

In the U.K. we pronounce grenadier as Grah-nay-dee-ah

No mention of fuel capacity or suspension… Please include in next video review and possible options for increasing fuel capacity

The Grenadier has a very low cargo weight capacity from a legal perspective. Practical option for increased fuel capacity is limited to jerrycans. There’s no room underneath for an auxiliary tank partly because it has a massive silencer running across the back, in front of the rear crossmember.

@@hedydd2 Yea and this is the only place I can see to install a aux/larger tank. Move the muffler elsewhere(smaller in size). Would be expensive though

@@robmacca67 Contrast that design with that of the new Ford Ranger, which admittedly has a longer wheelbase than Grenadier, but which, if the spare wheel is relocated to the ample rear deck or roof rack , has a great big void behind the back axle ripe for exploitation. The exhaust just loops over the axle and ends as a plain pipe angling down with no complications, waste space or excessive weight. The choice of a 205hp four cylinder engine also saves weight and allows a near 1200kg payload compare to just over half that for Grenadier. Adding another 80litre auxiliary tank to Grenadier, should room be found, would detract another 80 to 100kgs from its already small payload. This even applies to the Quartermaster pickup. Ignore load limits of course, and anything is possible.

Rueben, doesn’t seem to be anyone interested supporting this vehicle with after market gear, bullbar, baseplates, main thing is GVM upgrade to 4000kg, increase GCM to 7500 would be great, also if you are supporting these have a look at quartermaster. Very interested in this vehicle as tourer/tow vehicle. That engine/gearbox is way under rated in output, it’s also very reliable so far. It’s not cheap but may give Landcruiser run for its money if you can get after market items.
