It's that classic American entrepreneurial spirit and the current structure of internet media provides plenty of opportunity to be one's own boss. They clearly have that smooth on-air talent and their editorial choices are solid. I do wonder though if they'll manage to build up an ensemble of reporters and staff that they can draw on for research purposes. They may need to find some partners in corporate media to maintain their access. Don't know how good they are at doing that stuff -- business relationships and managing staff that has their own egos. Right now what they've got is a podcast with a morning show set that I keep thinking they are going to pan off to the side and there'll be a kitchen set there.
