I remember my father building this (Matchbox) kit for me to play with, I even remember where we bought the kit, that was in a little model shop in Monschau, Germany. A couple of years ago my wife and I visited that German village, the shop was on that location was gone but had moved to a bigger location... Nostalgia... my father passed away 5 years ago now

Dear Dany, Thanks for writing in with your recollections which I was pleased to read. I wonder if you build models yourself- I do hope so as it would be good to think that you have continued a tradition there. I haven't got around to putting this together yet, but when I do I will be giving it to the Welsh Spitfire Museum which has a Mk 8 on display for all to see. I toured it a short while ago and made a video there. It would be good to see this aircraft restored to flying condition. Regards, Z

A swear box Zin? Never! Not from such a cultured and well versed gent such as yourself! Another well presented review, made all the more entertaining with your dry wit. Looking forward to the build in due course.👍

Dear Mark, You're very kind to suggest that I might be cultured in some manner- I should point out that I still go to the chippy in my slippers... Anyway thanks very much for your remarks which I greatly value as ever- I'll probably do this after two other projects that I will do first. One will be a F41U Corsair and the other... Well you'll have to wait and see! Regards, Z

The 1/32 Scale Matchbox I had was from 1980-81. It was a part of that series of Matchbox 1/32 scale aircraft like the ME-109, SBD Dauntless and others, Multi colour plastic.

Dear Michael, Thanks for writing- multi colour plastic would have been quite a surprise eh? How do the parts go together? I will get to this kit later this year and will do some sort of video of my experiences- I hope you will join me! Regards, Z

Hi Zinzan Another very detailed and informative video brilliant work as for the swearbox can I suggest we take out a patent mass produce it with swear words in fifty languages and sell them to modellers worldwide and make a fortune we can split the profit 50/50 and retire!!! Keep up the good work my friend your videos really do help much less talented modellers like me cheers

Dear David, An interesting proposal! I shall develop a business plan perhaps!! As to my skills, they are rather limited and I am still a relative new boy having only returned to building in the last three years or so, but I am very flattered by your kind remarks! Many thanks! Regards, Z

Surely Tamiya is missing a Griffon engined 1/32 Spitfire?! And no Eduard in 1/48! At least there are a slew of Airfix 1/48 Griffon engined Spitfire and Seafires. Apologies for having pointing this one out...

David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA Not as poor of quality as I upon first look had suspected. One can build a rather serviceable model, if one takes due care. Do any of the other kit designers and manufacturers make a late-war Rolls-Royce Griffon-engine Spitfire? Priced rather high, though--thirty quid, you'd said?

Dear David, Thank you for writing. To be honest I’m not certain, although I think probably not. I compared it in my head (price wise at least) to the Tamiya and Kotare kits of earlier marks that are skulling around. Accordingly I judged it to be ok, but maybe it’s more than one might expect perhaps. I’ll build it sometime soon I imagine. I had promised the Welsh Spitfire museum a Spitfire model, so I ought to make good on that. Kindest regards, Z

Dear Richard, Thanks for getting in touch! This kit is somewhat less detailed than many and more modern kits surpass it. Thus, the trajectory from the past to the present is upward. Why not show people who will not have seen it before where we have come from? Regards, Z
